Any of you walk your dogs at Lake Okahumpka Park? Have you noticed lately that they never seem to have any bags available? And they aren't very good about emptying the trash. We always bring bags with us, but looks like a lot of people don't. If enough of us call, maybe they will do something about it. Here is a phone number to call: 352-689-4400
Where is Lake Ockahumpka Park?

On Hwy 44. Take Buena Vista until it ends (Hwy 44). Turn left. The park is about a mile on the right.

Very nice park with partially shaded trails and a small fenced dog park. I wonder if they have run out of funds for bags. I usually take a couple just in case, plus keep a water bowl in the car.

I also take bags. The dog waste containers are full. They rarely empty them. But I think almost everyone still cleans up after their dog. They appear to empty the waste containers in the picnic areas every week.

Knowing how cheap and greedy people can be, the bags provided probably get stolen the same way salt/pepper shakers and liquid coffee creamers are stolen from restaurants.
I don't think lack of bags is why there is uncollected dog waste there. I think it's laziness and lack of concern for county parks, because if we forgot to bring bags and the dispenser were out of them, I would find a piece of paper or plastic in the car or some large leaves to pick up the poop with.
It takes effort, not just free bags provided with somebody else's money.

The park really is very nice overall except that the dog park is full of burrs. We won't take our dogs there any more because they end up limping from all the burrs in their feet. We won't go back unless they take care of that problem.

After posting yesterday about no bags, we were pleasantly surprised to see that someone had filled all the doggie doo stations with bags. Large bags like for a trash can, but bags just the same. We always take our own, but it is nice that they have provided bags again. Some people were not picking up after their dogs. Thank you to whoever put the bags out.

At our dog beach in Michigan, the small town of Muskegon ran out of $ to stock dog bags. People took it upon themselves to stuff the bag dispensers with plastic bags from wherever--grocery stores, drugstores, etc.--or sprung for real doggie bags.
We were so happy to have this facility, we didn't mind helping out. I would do that at Okahumpka too. Maybe they had them on order and ran out. Maybe, as another poster mentioned, someone cleaned them out.
