Jenny and I were having lunch on one of the picnic tables at Paradise Park yesterday when a lady who recognized me from The Beatles Club came over and asked why I wasn't playing music.
It gave me the idea to have an informal get together in the park with acoustic guitars and whatever other acoustic instruments people want to bring. It would also be nice to have some singers as well.
We'd probably have to stick to simple 3 or 4 chord songs so that every one could play along, but there are thousands of them.
Next Sunday is Mother's Day and I'm busy as I'm sure a lot of you are. So I'm thinking Sunday, May 17 at noon time. Bring lunch or a snack and something to drink if you'd like and a chair.
And if you don't play or sing, it would be nice to have audience members as well.
Let me know if you're interested.

I think if you are having a group meet at the recreational areas including picnic areas, you will need to make reservations through the recreation dept.

I like your idea for just sitting around and playing music. Overall just being out as well is great.

I will bring my Tenor Ukulele, but you have to promise not to play any songs with E chords.

My fingers will ignore your advice. They have a mind of their own. Thank goodness for I IV V in the keys of C and G

If you bar all of the strings on the fourth fret you'll be playing an E6 which in most cases is fine. If you can learn to take the pressure off the A string, you'l have an E chord. Many of the chords have simpler versions. You don't always have to play all four strings.
and you are missing a whole slew of songs if you don't know how to play the minor 6 or minor 2. Almost all of those Doo Wop songs from the fifties go 1-6m-4-5. In C it's the Am which is a one finger chord. Try playing C-Am-F-G and you might hear what I'm talking about.
Do you go to any of the ukulele clubs?

I play C-Am-F-G/G7a lot. As you know, Octopus' Garden can be played using those chords. I have trouble with partial bars because my knuckle joints won't bend backwards enough to lift off the unbarred strings. I actually have to come over the top with my thumb to hit a D chord. I tried the uke clubs but I play Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Old Crow Medicine Show, Warren Zevon, etc and they play Five Foot Two and Down by the Old Mill Pond.
