We are looking to replace our carpet but are not sure what to replace it with. There is laminate, engineered hardwood, tile that looks like wood, etc. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

We have tile in the kitchen and bathrooms and a high grade laminate in the living room and dining room and hallways. I think it is important if you go with a laminate that you go with a high grade (ours is a 12 grade). You also may need an area rug somewhere in the room to cut down the echo. I have been in homes where they didn't get a high grade and your heels click. Ours is a light cherry with a piano finish. We have had it about 5 years already and it looks like brand new. I clean it with a microfiber mop and a tiny spritz of water (hardly any). A neighbor of ours has engineered hardwoods and they look great also.

We initially replaced the carpeting with mandate in the bedrooms and tile everywhere else. Tile and grout we had was hard to keep clean or even get clean (but that was a bad installation job) that said tile was very hard on my joints. We kept tile in bathrooms and now have high grade laminate everywhere else and love it. Easier to clean works well with dogs and looks wonderful!

We recently replaced our original carpet and vinyl with good carpet (bedrooms and den) and plank porcelain tile everywhere else. Great Lakes did it and we are quite pleased.

We have tile throughout. Very easy to keep clean and looks great! We put area rugs in the sitting room, living room and bedrooms. We do, however, need to wear our rubber crocks around on the tile floors as it is hard on your feel, but I wouldn't change a thing.

When we built we thought we wanted laminate in all the living areas and carpet in just the bedrooms, but because The Villages does not offer laminate we had wood grained vinyl installed in the foyer, kitchen, hall, laundry and guest bath. Carpet everywhere else. our only tile floor is the mater bath.
We thought we would tear out the vinyl ASAP, but we love it. It is easy under foot, doesn't show dirt, easy to clean and really much more attractive than we ever thought it could be.
When we get ready to make a change, we will look at the Luxury Vinyl. It is a beautiful, durable, comfortable product.
We have talked to several who put in laminate as we had planned, and have been disappointed. Foot prints show, it's loud, dust shows. So we are not in a rush to change anything. But when we do, we will look at vinyl first. We love our builder vinyl! What a surprise!!

We looked at everything and finally chose an inexpensive laminate. It has an antique barn wood look we really like.

We love laminate. We have it installed throughout home and it looks beautiful. Hate tile as its cold on feet, hard on your feet and knees as you age.

We have laminate in the living room because we have dogs.
Village Floors in Fruitland Park installed the laminate. It has indentations and looks like wood.
Carpet in the bedrooms because it's comfy.
We find tile cold and hard on feet and knees.

Hard wood in main area, master BR and closet. Carpet in other bedrooms and tile everywhere else. I have bad allergies so the hardwood help a great deal.

You may have already started doing this, but as a suggestion, you may want to go to open houses, similar to your home, and look at and get a feel for the different products. I was told on laminate floors that the underlayment is key to a good install.
We ended up with Mohawk laminate in the living, dinning, and Florida rooms. In the kitchen we had Armstrong Alterna, 16x16 vinyl.
Pleased with both products.:jester:

Before moving in, we replace all of the carpet with tile. Now our entire house is tile and we love it.

With the piano finish on our laminate our cat used to wet his feet and walk all over the laminate floor. His footprints dried and showed until I mopped it. With pets I would think the hand scraped look might work better because they aren't so smooth and shiney to show the footprints. However the laminate we have installed is not loud at all, it is high grade and came with a sponge coating on the bottom of the planks. We put in one area rug and it was enough to take care of any echo. You do not hear anything when you walk on it.

Since I work for Shaw, we replaced all the Mohawk carpet with Shaw Epic engineered hardwood.

We put a solid click float bamboo in our front entry here in Seattle and we love it but I don't know how it would work if it had furniture on it. Ours is much more dense than many I have seen and a dark cherry color and can be refinished as it is 1/2 in solid. We went with this as there are pipes running under the slab in this location and it could be pulled up and put back down if repairs were ever needed. I am concerned that if I replace the carpet with tile in the villages house and a pipe needs fixing it will be a disaster.

we have all ceramic tile in our house. In our other house, we had a really nice laminate in the whole house.

We replaced our carpet with the tile that looks like wood. We actually went with the barn siding looking wood and absolutely love the look. The tiles are different so it has a very cool effect. I will say that it's hard on the feet and takes some getting used to.

With pets, we decided to replace the carpet in our new CYV with tile that looks like wood. The only carpet left is in the bedrooms. We love it and the look! They have several colors to go with any decor. We went with a lighter wood color that went well with our Oak cupboards.

After 13 years of all tile, we moved into a new house that came with carpet which we thought we would replace but it is so nice on our feet and our legs don't ache anymore. We put scatter mats in the kitchen over the tile and find ourselves leaping from mat to mat to not walk on the hard tile. Who knew we would like the carpet so much. It's a surprise to us Floridians.

We ripped up the carpeting throughout and installed a high end laminate that looks like tile. The areas that have vinyl we left, thought about tile, too hard on the feet. When it needs to be replaced, it will be with luxury vinyl.
