Our neighbor just told us that their cart was stolen while it was parked in the drive of a villa in Caroline. He had a dedicated ignition key which should have made it difficult to steal. Now they have to go through the hassle of insurance, deductibles, and depreciation. Our instructor who had hers stolen 2 weeks ago still hasn't found hers. She assumes they took it to a chop shop for parts.

That's scary when they have a dedicated ignition key and it still gets stolen!

Was it parked overnight outside at the Villa or just for a visit or temporarily? Impossible to not leave them outside when you are out doing activities, errands, shopping, etc. Blame the thieves, not the victims.

Just another reason I bought on ebay a wheel lock clamp. I probably would go on a "search and beat their a** good" mission if mine/my wife's was ever stolen.

I read that the dedicated key was in the ignition.

I just added 4 of those to my anti theft measures (one for each wheel) with all the chain, cable, locks, and steering wheel "club" I have to carry with me in my cart it leaves little room for anyone else to ride along...
I already have an ignition cut off switch...I might just add a second ignition cut off switch for good measure (just in case they find the first switch!)

:a20: Hilarious! Dirtbanker, people are already paranoid. Isn't this why we carry insurance---just don't leave anything really valuable in your cart.

TV isn't safe? (where is) We stayed in River Wilderness near Sarasota where cars/carts HAD to be in the garage not parked outside, unless loading or unloading ONLY!

Dedicated keys as a deterrent to golf cart theft really do not do much good if left in the switch, do they?
I have only left the key once in my cart accidentally and that was one time I drove it to church. Luckily, Lutherans are honest and it was still there after services!
Yesterday, I went to Cane Garden after golf for a beer. The cart next to mine in the lot had the key in the switch AND a man's wrist watch draped on the steering column as well as two golf bags in back.
Even if this is one of the most honest places in the country, you have to take certain precautions.

Accidentally leaving keys in a cart does not give scum bags the permission to steal. It was a young newly married couple visiting our neighbor and TV. They feel awful. Let us not put the blame on them, please.

I doubt anyone is blaming the victim. In a perfect world one should be able to leave any item in public and be assured it will be there upon your return. We do not live in a perfect world however and a certain level of caution and prudence needs to be exercised.

These guys need to be caught...I'm taking photos with my phone of anything suspicious. It takes little time and if al is okay, no one is inconvenienced by it.
Carts, creeps that sneak into garages when you leave the door up for a couple of minutes and thieves thAt break into our homes...enough!

Take the rose colored glasses off...You might be sitting next to more sinners there than you would at a stripper bar!

Why do you say that?
Because the criminals have no fear in going to jail; all that most of them will get is a slap on the wrist (probation) and will be back out to do this again.

Why do you say that?
Because it is true. If there was fear they wouldn't be doing any crime. The worst that will happen to them is 3 squares, tv, health care, etc.
No fear.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

If they would take my clubs and leave the cart then my golf game might improve.

that is some funny chit.
Well has anyone Put alarms on there cars, which also defeat the starting of the cart.
They work the same as a car alarm and disables the igniton. i have them on both of my carts with shock sensors so if someone hits them in a parking lot the alarm goes off.
