Tammy at Winn Dixie and her staff has done it again. Today we left at 7:30 AM to go on the pontoon ride at Hontoon Landing with about 30 people from the Village of Gilchrist. It was a beautiful day to be on the water and the lunch was terriffic. 60 pieces of chicken and the large sub platter. I shopped around to get the best price so everyone knew what their share would be and Winn Dixie beat everyone's price and they started work early so it would all be fresh. Thank you Winn Dixie, Tammy and staff.

Thanks for recognizing their work on your behalf. I always find the staff friendly and helpful and am glad you did also.

This is so good to hear. I get tired of hearing that Publix is "the only game in town". It's not. Winn-Dixie is good, too.
Was this the Pinellas store location? I hope they all get lots of new business.

Does the WD at Pinellas Plaza have self checkouts? When I go to the checkout with three items, I don't feel much like standing in line. It would be nice for these supermarkets to get into this century.
But good to hear about quality service.

the Pinellas Plaza WD (a great store) is an exception with the chain. I lived 37 years in Jax (the corporate headquarters) and wouldn't cross the street (literally, it was right across the street from home) to shop WD. Publix wins hands down.

Enjoy Publix. I shopped at WD today. I was asked by 5 employees if they could assist me. Two went and got items for me when I couldn't find them. I'm happy.

I will start using self checkouts when they give you a price break for doing it yourself saving them from using cashiers and bag boys.

Where is Hontoon Landing? It is in DeLand, about 50 miles East of the Villages on Hwy 42. I just moved to the Villages from DeLand. Put it in your computer search engine for exact directions.

We felt we stepped back in time when we got here. In PA, the stores we used all had self checkout and Giant had a scanner on the cart so you could scan each item, price check and know your total bill before you checked out. Computer read the scanner, you paid with a CC and out the door. Now, it's back to standing in line and waiting, waiting and waiting. We are retired and want fun, not standing in a line at a grocery store. When will Publix and WD get to the 21st century.

Many stores in the South abandoned self checkout stations over the last several years largely because of poor customer service complaints. In the North they are installed so the staff doesn't have to deal with a bunch of local grump buckets.

IMO When money becomes obsolete and when they can get in the 21 century with credit Cards in the US. Can't believe we the most industrialized county in the world with computer technology are still stuck in the 80's with credit card technology. With all the fraud in CCs they need to SC them and start over IMO.
