I live on a golf course and have a swimming pool. The other day a drone hovered nearby --- watching us in the pool. I felt very uncomfortable about it, considering a recent break-in in my neighborhood (never reported in the papers). Later, after a few minutes of research, I discovered that this is perfectly legal. A drone can peek in your windows, watch your grandchildren, watch you skinny dip in your own private pool. I imagine that the drone can record everything it's pointed at for someone's viewing pleasure. These things need regulation. Why would anyone want a drone?

to see people skinny dipping in their pool....:loco:

(sorry, had to say it!)

I agree with you...it's invasive and very scary that anyone can have these things.

There is no skinny dipping in daylight hours, but drones do fly at night.

Quick reflexes and a 9 iron should take care of a drone sneaking a peek :)

Paint ball gun is another option.

Watch it and see where it lands and who goes to retrieve it and have a chat with the pilot.

Paint ball gun is an excellent choice. They can clean the lens if they can find their way back. LOL

Drone could have been sent from the NSA.

Nude Swimming Association.

On a serious note, I would understand your concern. It is becoming a popular hobby all over - and yes, no regulations. Of course no regulations other than the White House grounds. And probably the Capital. And probably around politician's homes.

Next time you see the thing, do something wild & crazy - it probably has a camera and you'll end up on uTube.

Send a letter to the White House. Tell them that ....what can we think of to tell them to get their attention? We are a bunch of old people? We are a bunch of naked old swimmers? We are a bunch of ??????

We will think of something.

If the Drone was looking at naked people in their pools in the Villages, trust me, it won't come back ever again !:22yikes:

Amazon

"The online retail giant originally unveiled 'Amazon Prime Air'—a plan to deliver books, Blu-Rays and toilet paper by unmanned aerial vehicle—in December 2013. Since then it has been attempting to get regulatory approval from the US Federal Aviation Authority to start testing and—eventually—deploying the idea in the real world." http://arstechnica.com/business/2015/05/amazons-drones-revealed-in-patent/

Where do you live? I live on a course too and I ordered some toilet paper from Amazon.

OK, lets get together and get a hunting season for drones, say 1 or 2 days per week, and set an appropriate bag limit:a040::a040::a040: I will let the rest of ToTV get in the rest of the regulations, enjoy!!

But on a serious note, I do not like the idea of a drone flying around my house.:22yikes:

I own a drone and would never think of using it in a peeping tom manner.I believe that the person that did that has a broken moral compass.I say you have every right to destroy it if it is on YOUR PROPERTY.

What's interesting is that there have been arrests across the country of people that have shot at drones. The arrests are on weapons charges, illegal discharge of a weapon, endangering the population and other stuff. There is a discussion on who owns air rights, if you shoot a drone can you be sued? It will be fun watching how this all develops. Also, there is a club in TV that meets at the polo grounds to fly their drones.

Uberschaf, if I may ask, what's the point of owning one? Is it a hobby like a radio-controlled planes, to fly for fun and do acrobatic maneuvers? Does the club race them?

The only ones I've heard of are for aerial photography. As you can tell, it's not my area of expertise. :)

Are they noisy enough that you can hear them outside your house if one was peeping?

Quad copters/drones are fairly quiet as they use electric motors. The only noise comes from the props. The new event/challenge is quad racing. A good friend of mine is the President of IRCHA that holds the world’s largest heli meet at the AMA grounds in Muncie, Indiana

For more info, go to their web site ->Welcome to IRCHA | IRCHA (http://www.ircha.org/)

Here is a YouTube video that I made flying my quad. It was a staged event but I forgot to explain my staging so I took some heat from a viewer. As I have flow as a private pilot for over 40 years, I am aware of and always think about safety.

I have flown R/C airplanes for over 40 years, and helicopters off & on during that time. I am not interested in aerial photography or video, myself, but can see where it would be interesting to many people. Some of the advanced drones can be fast and aerobatic, but the primary mission is being a camera platform. For the average person, the photography & video could be scenic views, vacation remembrance, or just for the feeling of flight. You should not assume that all users are doing bad things. That is what the media would have you believe, because it's sensational reporting.

That being said, you might try to see where the drone goes, and meet the owner for a non-confrontational discussion. That would either put your mind at ease, or give you something suspicious to report to the police.

Joyce. I think Sweetie is quite handsome. I know I am not so great looking anymore.......but.....We can trapeze with the best of 'em. sigh.

You know, don't you, that someone is likely to take this seriously and start a whole new thread?

This forum can be a cause for worry, a source of great aggravation and also a good deal of fun.

I would like more of the fun, please.

Many residential real estate listings now have photos that appear to be taken from drones. They show close up aerial views of the listed home.

Frankly, if I wanted to photograph folks around a swimming pool I would fly a drone over the Playboy Mansion rather than a home in The Villages!

I'm not too concerned about it here. Given that there's probably not anything that drone can see that a golfer (if you're on a golf course) or anyone with decent binoculars can't see.
Privacy doesn't really exist here oustide of your home.

We should move this to the just for fun section, I am getting so many laughs.

But we did stray from the original questions and discussion. Also, about 2-3 months ago my wife and I were sure we spotted on of these just south of 466a between Morse and Buena Vista, have not seen it since.

This is one case where I am looking forward to more regulations. I do feel sorry for the responsible hobbyist that are being lumped into the same basket as the irresponsible ones.

I agree fully with this use. Years ago we had a neighbor and their real estate agent rent an actual helicopter to take pictures of their home. It was located on a wooded cliff with the majority of the home only visible from behind, hence the helicopter. A drone would have been a very practical alternative. I've also seen some very useful videos for city planning meetings. The drone isn't the problem but we have all heard arguments like this elsewhere.
