I'll be down next week helping my mom move into her new home in Hadley. Was wondering if there is a workout center (treadmill) near Hadley that is open to guests with proper guest ID card.

Or a running club perhaps? Didn't see one in her flyer, but I might have overlooked it. I am training for a race in Oct and don't want to lose any days.

Thanks to anyone that can help! :)

There are some treadmills in some regional rec centers. You have to pay but I am not sure of the day or week rates. Once you get here just go to any rec center and they will have all the info.

Colony Cottage Rec Center is immediately south of Hadley and has plenty of machines with a daily fee. Check with them for details.

And the multi modal paths (often mistakenly referred to as cart paths) are free with much better scenery.

I run every day I am there by mapping out a 2, 3 and 5 mile loop around my neighborhoods on the local streets. I usually run really early soon as its light enough so there is no traffic. Works fine and again its free.

L2 - That's a good idea. I only thought about the main roads but your idea is better. The neighborhood streets are much less crowded (almost deserted in April!). Do you have to contend with the rather large crown on the sides of the streets or can you pretty much stay towards the middle. I know the crowns in Florida seem much steeper.

Yes that can be an issue, but by picking the streets it was not to much of a problem. In VA I run in the Manassas battlefied so I am used to running on dirt, fields and wood chip trails. So the pavement is a little hard on the legs and knees. So when I get there more full time will try to find a park or somepleace where I can avoid pavement.

Thanks everyone for your help, ya'll are great. I might just take it the streets and see some scenery. I tend to wilt in very humid conditions, but this will be a good opportunity to see a lay of the land so to speak. Thanks for the insight on the golf cart/modal paths, I was wondering if they area open to foot traffic.

Just thought I'd update for anyone who is a wannabe and runs. TV is THE place for runners. I had my best run ever outdoors Sunday morning, and the scenery, sunrise and jogging paths were awesome. (the concrete they use had a little more spring than concrete at home) I went up from Hadley, past Odell, past Colony Cottage, etc. The humidity was not bad at all, much better than at home. Maybe because it's more inland? Anyway, For the first time in my running life, I was not afraid of traffic nor abductions, etc etc etc. Yep, I'm sold on TV for many reasons, being a runners paradise has to be in the top 3.

Cool, Roz!

You can run past my house and come on in for a cup of coffee when I get to Hadley.

I wish I could run, never did have the enthusiasm even when I was younger. But I love to walk.

Glad you had such a good time. Welcome to Hadley!! Kath

Nonie, we said this a year ago and we never did it. Let's get a group of the ladies, especially from Hadley, to walk the pounds off, this way you won't need lipo, you'll shrink down to nothing!... Then we'll go to my house for ice cream and cake... Low Fat, of course!

Kathie and Nonie, that would awesome to start a Hadley walking/running group. :) Even though I don't live in TV (my mom does), I will be down a lot and would consider it a honor to walk with ya'll. I'm just a girl with too many layers who is struggling to get some of it off. If you saw me running up that last hill--I looked like death warmed over. Happy walking to you both!

In my opinion you are in great shape, just the word RUN makes me slither back inside my shell. Good for you!

OMG, but turtles crawl faster than I run! Walking is so much better for you than running IMHO. I'm only running because in a moment of insanity I signed myself up for the WDW Princess 1/2 Marathon in March. I must have been smoking crack or something.....

I'm worried about WALKING up the hill! Talk about out of shape!!

Nonie remember our dancing at KB's, I thought we were both going to pass out!!

Ouma, you'll be our inspiration cause you already walk every day, good for you... There is nothing better than walking, my doctors tell me that all the time.

Can't wait, ladies. 040 040

Roz, you are welcome to join us at KB's, hope you like to dance, Nonie and I are nuts, we'll bring Rockinronda along too, she never stops rockin'... I'm sure a bunch of others will join us, whoever is in town at that time.

I almost moved to Matisse too. But please tell Hidy to join us in the walking group. We'd love to have her in the group. I'm sure this thing will grow by the tens before we're done.

See ya in TV!!!

GG and JJ, welcome to the TOTV Walking Babes (as Ouma calls us). We'll be sure to keep in touch. We'll post a few weeks before to get into your schedules.

Rozzie, is GG right? Is it your birthday on the 8th? Happy Birthday to you!!!

Rozzie welcome to you, albeit p/t, and your mom to the hood. Last week we walked the length of Havana Trail, to Ambrosia and threw in a side street or 2 back to our home on Havana Trail. 2.6 miles in about 43 minutes. If you go down Ellenton and come back up Foxbridge that's 3.2 miles. Now when we're there permanently please pay no attention to the old guy being towed by an exuberant Irish Setter. It's just a figment of your imagination. Kath do you know CPR? I know at the end of Saffron I'd be in good hands but...

:welcome:

LOL F16, I'm a RN, so between Donna and I say your chances are good. Thanks for the tip on the routes, I am getting a Garmin this week so it will help with mapping out the mileage, so I'll let you know if I find any other routes that are similar mileage. I am going to try your route my next visit, can't wait!!! :)
