Of those two choices I would go with Outback. I prefer the Harris steaks at Lopez above all else.

Another vote for Mark's Prime Steakhouse. Then the individual chateaubriand cut from Fresh Market on my grill (remember to grill steaks on high).

Besides hot off my own grill, Longhorn has a pretty consistent rib eye for the money. Make sure you ask for it char grilled otherwise they will cook it on the flat iron which makes the steak turn out much differently in my opinion. Nancy Lopez is excellent. Marks Prime is like Ruth's Chris $.

Mark's Prime filet wasn't that good when we visited; no comparison to Lopez.

Between Outback and Longhorn it really depends on how you like your steak seasoned.
Longhorn to me is more like coming off the backyard grill and Outback has more spicy taste.

I prefer Longhorn, very consistent. Any time I go to Outback, I leave asking myself, why did I come back here???

Better than either LH or OB in my humble opinion are the NY Strip steaks from Publix' butcher. They're usually 1 3/4" thick and one steak can easily feed two-people. Every other week they're usually on sale for $7.99 or $8.99 a pound. Publix alternates between the Ribeye and NY Strip, which I personally prefer. 16 minutes on the Weber grill on high and they are perfectly rare. Let them sit for 5-10 minutes while you freshen your cocktail.

Go to Cuvee Bistro in Ocala--damn close to a great steak-- I can cook a better steak on my 700 degree grill than any restaurant in the villages. why go out to eat a steak its not rocket science-buy a good thick steak sear it 1 min on each side when the internal temp reaches 120 degrees, tent it in foil for 5-10 minutes & you're good to go--DUH

Oh, really?
Well, it is nice to have a good steak cooked at home, but there are times when we might enjoy having our dinner cooked for us and served.
Personally, I enjoy the steaks that my husband prepares at home and we both enjoy those that my son prepares.....he's a dam good chef.

If you are ever in the mood for a road trip and some high dollar historical steak decadence, you have to try Bern's Steak House in Tampa. Started in 1925 amazing history on this place that you can read up on at bernsteakhouse.com. They have a special "Dessert Room" there where they have many private booths that are made from old wine barrels and have private 1950's phones to call the waiter. They have the largest dessert wine, brandy, scotch, cognac, ect list that I have ever seen , all paired with wonderful desserts if you wish. You don't have to eat at the restaurant either, you can take the elevator straight up to the Dessert Room and enjoy! A must do in Florida at least once.

I'm going to try it out when the interest rates come down a bit so I can take out a personal loan with a reasonable payment plan.

Tom - they make several sizes, and the Egg's reputation is well earned. If you ever think you you might cook for more than 2, I would advise you to get the large unit. It's sufficient for a good size turkey, steaks for 6, etc.

If you don't over indulge you can easily go have a great meal at Berns for $60.00 PP, $75.00 if you go to the dessert room for Bananna's Foster. That will include a drink each, steak, onion soup, house salad, and potato. Of course they do have some wines around $10,000.00 per bottle. Whatever you spend it is money well spent. Just spectacular food and service. We try to go twice a year. Make a 6:00 reservation, leave TV at 3:30 have a great meal and be home around 10:30.

Ruth's Chris
Steaks run between $42 and $55 plus potatoes and sides $9 each.
Would an upscale place like that, independent or chain succeed in the villages?
Now that we have the Sharon and they are advertising heavily on Gold 99 FM [Timeless Favorites] do you think going to The villages for a big night on the town, instead of Orlando or Tampa become "a thing".
[I think it will---maybe I should start a new thread on this subject]

When you go to the Outback, Longhorn, Texas Roadhouse & you wake up with a parched tongue-thank the salt & the msg
In Central NJ (Morris County), there was a steak house called Arthur's & another one called Sammy's Ye Old Cider Mill--Arthur's taste ok, Sammy's was as close to a Peter Luger steak as possible, but about 4AM, you had to drink tons of water after eating an Arthur's steak
All beef can be fairly tasty with the right marinade & aging--but for great steaks-you've got to get 28 day aged prime

By looking @ some of the local restaurants mentioned for the best steaks--its very obvious ,that a lot of residents here have never experience a really fine steak--Ruby Tuesday steaks are the equivalent of some truck stops, take the MSG out of Longhorn, the Outback and most chains you have shoe leather--the key to a junk steak, is when you see steak sauce of the table.
A waiter would throw you out of Peter Lugers if you asked for steak sauce.
