As much as I Love the Villages my faith in The Honesty of Villagers is shaken. My wife lost an extra special shortened putter that somehow fell from the cart on her way to Mallory CC on Sunday morning between 8:30 -9:00 am. She traveled Allaire Loop/Abana/Pinellas/Cart Path to Odell/Mallory.

I took cart along same route to/from Mallory CC within 30 minutes of her call.

Posted IMM notice on TOV under Lost/Found and as of this writing - NOTHING!!!

I have been to the Lost & Found of Mallory/Havana/Colony/Bonifay and every guard shack to/from.

I have seen many times where found objects were put on a bench or by a tree so the owner could find.

The old adage of "What goes around come around" should happen to the person keeping this club.

I think it will turn up. It is only Thursday. BogieShooter will tell you more places to check. Only a fraction of folks read TOTV. We all have putters and don't need someone elses.

More often than not , when other golfers find a club on the course and cant immediately identify the owner, they stick it in their cart or bag, and in many cases forget it. Later they turn it in somewhere. With the enourmous numbers of inexperienced golfers this happens much more frequently. Very few people want to"steal " the club. Check back at the course in a few days. Was your name and address , phone number, and email address on the club? Labels are available through the CCs and Golf Shops

I have all of my and my wife's clubs labeled with our name, address and telephone number. You will see ads for these labels in the back of Golf and Golf Digest magazines. I believe in the Villagers and fully expect that if we lose a club we will be contacted.

Cheap insurance.

Lost and Found
Depending on where items are found, inexpensive items will be held for one month at La Hacienda, Laurel Manor, or Eisenhower Regional Recreation Centers. Valuables will be turned over to the Lady Lake Police Department, Sumter County Sheriff’s Office or Marion County Sheriff’s Office within 72 hours. At the end of each month, unclaimed items will be donated to local charities. The Recreation Department is not responsible for lost items

Aren't those public roads? Could one of the construction vehicles hit it and sent it flying into a yard or a median strip not to be found again until the plants are changed out? I'm sorry your wife a club but not sure it is fair to question the honesty of villagers.

I 'cheap out' and use the free labels the charities so love to send with a piece of clear packing tape over it.

Once again, ONE instance of a single LOST club is utilized to stereotype all villagers as being so cheap and such thieves that they would want a custom-shortened putter.

News flash: Everybody who golfs has a putter or two or three, and we don't have to steal to get somebody's quirky one. And villagers who don't golf are not interested.

Doubt any construction workers hit it on Sunday at 8:30 am!

Where?

I have seen three threads where the person who lost a club later recovered it but first came on here and called Villagers unethical. Go to search above and type in "lost club".

Not many need a shortened putter. I have played with the same putter for over twenty years.

one rascal does not make Villager's disappointing.
Be disappointed in the one rascal Villager.

Golflabels dot com is a great label provider. My putter fell off the cart last year and the guy who found it in the gutter called the next day. The 9 dollar labels saved a $100.00 putter.

Last week I found an iron on Bonita pass, called the number on the label, and left a message that I was going to leave the club at the starter shack. Later that day I ordered my own labels.

Nothing other than the OP suggests it was an unethical or dishonest Villager. Public roads.

Where?
Another person in the class said he found them but didn't say where. I'd already ordered a set from Kiefer so now I've got an extra set...

If I lose a club the only person I can be mad at is myself for allowing it to fall off my cart. And then complain about it. Most of the time it shows up. Then eating crow when it does. Remember the stolen keys? Not stolen.

I would be more disappointed in myself, driving around and letting cr@p fall out of my cart.

I am sorry about your loss of the club but it could still show up. I hope it does and I have to say that I find there are more honest people here in the villages than anywhere else. All you have to do is read totv or the newspaper to see how many people say thank you to the stranger that turned in their lost item. many times it has been a wallet with cash.

Interesting that the OP has now deleted his initial post. Of course it is preserved in follow up posts that quoted it. Perhaps the club has now been located, perhaps the OP just realized his posting was a bit intemperate and regretted. Either way, I hope the club shows up and welcome the OP to post an update in a week or two.

I agree . It would be good if posters who have found that their post was incorrect , or just intemperet would take the time to apopogise here. For my part I would be more apt to read their subsequent offerings. Slim chance!

One did find it and apologize on this forum for saying that someone kept it and I will always think well of him.

I do hope that the OP finds that club, because I think that most of us here would return it. I think we mostly had good parents who taught us ethics and responsibility. Living here is a gift. They taught us to save our money too.

Most??

If you are writing a paper, you must sometimes qualify your statements. I think most of us would return it, don't you Bogie???? I KNOW you would. I am pretty sure I would. ;)

I just thougt you were suspicious of some poster's that wouldn't, so you used "most" rather than "all".
