My husband saw Dr. DeSclafani yesterday in Ocala. I beliEve he is in the same group as above. Very good doctor. Nice personality. We did not have to wait long in the office either. We have found a number of excellent doctors in Ocala.

Being that we live in this rural area, if a doctor told me I needed a neurosurgeon, I would go to either The University of Florida in Gainesville or The University of South Florida in Tampa.

I agree. Not that I think the doctor's recommended aren't good. I don't know them.

Was it a neurosurgeon that was arrested for having all kinds of drugs in her car after she was pulled over for driving erratically on 466A a couple of years ago?

What happened to her?

Well Gracie, actually she is practicing here in TV. I don't quite understand how that works (I don't think she ever served jail time).

That was a neurologist. She still practices here in TV.

I had lower back surgery about 8 years ago. I used Neurosurgeon Dr. Michael Hill in Leesburg. His phone number is 352-728-3252. I am very pleased with the results I've had. I choose him because of recommendations I received from friends who are local physicians.

BTW....he's not the "friendliest" guy......he can be very blunt.....but his surgical skills far outweigh his personality.

Good Luck to you!

That is interesting, I have met a couple socially and they weren't very people friendly.

Not unusual....many doctor's carry around huge egos that cause them to have little interest in other people.

Not unusual....many doctor's carry around huge egos that cause them to have little interest in other people.

Some of it is ego, but much is because many are maladjusted socially and in a state of arrested development going back to their late teens. The academic requirements of becoming a physician are extremely demanding and start in high school where AP and other very difficult courses preclude their ability to participate in socializing activities. That status remains until they have completed college, medical school, residency, and fellowship training.

The good news is that many physicians overcome their shyness and become socially adept and fun to be around.

As I recall the reports, she is a Neurologist and not a Neurosurgeon. What was found were prescription meds and she was able to provide legitimate prescriptions.

Another case of gossip before facts. Glad she wasn't named.

Regarding the original question, before seeing a surgeon, you might want to consider several less invasive alternatives first. As suggested Physical Therapy, or maybe Chiropractic.

Get a second opinion from another doctor and see what he says about seeing the surgeon. Usually your health plan will will pay for a send opinion. Please be careful when dealing with a back issue.

I read the newspaper story, and the illegal drug charges were dropped because she had prescriptions for them. The DUI charge remained.

I'm just sayin'... she isn't a neurosurgeon, as was suggested, and she wasn't in possession of illegal drugs. Granted, I wouldn't want her as my doctor, but we have to be more careful of posting things before checking the facts.

At the risk of being second hand info, a friend goes to this particular doctor with full knowledge of her past and my friend is very pleased with her.

I just came back from appt at U of F in Gainsville in the neurology dept. (teaching hospital) Dr. Burtis was the Dr. He spent an 1 1/2 hrs with me....this was the first appt. He is every knownledgable....however you may have to wait many months to see him....it's worth it. plus they have all the equipment (MRI) etc. better machines than Lake Imaging) to test you there.

My husband recently had very extensive back surgery by Dr. Hoh, a neurosurgeon at U of F in Gainesville. Very pleased with the results. He had a the surgery 7 years ago by a different Dr. And was never out of pain. Whoever you choose make sure back surgery is their speciality.
