Why do we have cameras above trafic lights on Buena Vista Blvd, Morse Blvd, and El Camino Real?
Are they there to monitor or observe trafic or to regulate the lights, OR WHAT?
Thank You.

We have them at almost every intersection in Utah. They're there to take your picture if you run a red light, so they know where to send the ticket. :cop: At least that's what they do here. Maybe they're there for another reason? Sure.

Are they cameras? Could they be sensors to monitor the traffic and control the light cycles? They may have some purpose relative to emergency vehicles.

There not cameras. There sensors for traffic flow and emergency vehicles, police, fire, medical. Emergency vehicles have transmitters that can change the Red to Green in their direction and change the Green to Red for the cross traffic. I guess its done so they don't get caught up in a traffic jam when reporting to an emergency.

I think cod168 is correct. I saw the ones in The Villages when I visited and they look like the ones we have in my area in upsate New York. The ones that we have are trafffic sensors, not cameras. Where I live they are putting them in on several of the intersections.

The only traffic cameras here in TV are at the gates to take pictures of the visiting license plates. The devices on top of traffic signals are sensors to regulate traffic.
