We are going to be looking to buy a new refrigerator. Which ones should we avoid? Do you have suggestions for good ones. We currently have a side-by-side Kenmore. Noisy than any refrigerator we have ever had. Plus when you pull it out there is always something orange I have to clean up like rust. Not sure which brands are good. Any repairmen out there with an opinion? And not sure if we want another side-by-side, a bottom freezer, top freezer, or french door refrigerator. All suggestions welcome.

Good luck, it seems all of the new models are to be avoided. Anything with an ice maker, typically has almost yearly ice maker problems. In the door ice or water dispensers are another major source of complaints. I hope you get some good information on reliable brands, but from the recent reviews I have seen, the new models are not like the older ones.

Our salesman actually said they were all junk!! Seriously..this was at Lowes.. we ended up with a Samsung but it needed a new compressor, etc.within a years time.. long story shortened, after 3 repairs and numerous phone calls it was replaced by an LG per recommendation of the 3 repair guys.. and the LG is going on 2 yrs so far so good. but don't tell the appliance gods because my bragging may anger them !!! Our washer and dryer are looking mighty old..

Be sure to check out the Samsung 4-door fridge. We bought one about two years ago and I absolutely love it. It comes in several sizes, including the 33" wide that fits smaller openings. It is a deeper fridge and that is how they get larger cf. inside. I love the drawer in the middle. It is very versatile and has saved me when I have needed to cool a big platter or pan. Whirlpool also makes a 4-door fridge but the quality just isn't the same. It IS quite a bit less expensive, though. By far, this is the best refrigerator we have ever owned.

Avoid the GE Performance Profile with all the fancy gadgets. Lasted less than 2 years. Love our LG French door refrigerator with a huge freezer drawer on the bottom. Adjustable shelves for large party trays and cookie sheets. Water and ice on the door. The ice maker/storage is on the small side. You just need to plan ahead for a party.

We bought a Samsung with the freezer on the bottom from Lowes 3 years ago and haven't had any problems.

Twe bought a Samsung side by side in 2009 and hated leaving it in our house we sold. The side by side that came w the pre owned house here (201) is ugly looking and noisy! But is working

One of our big things is finding a refrigerator that is quiet. Our Kenmore S/B/S has been noisy since day one. It makes a variety of noises. I have been scared a number of times thinking that someone was in the house. I can hear it from any room in the house.

I suggest you avoid the low end (contractor grade)of any brand. Spending a little more will insure greater satisfaction and longevity. We replaced our brand new Whirpools (designer home) with higher end SAMSUNG units ( Fr door refrig, stove, micro and DW). You could see the difference in quality as the deliverymen took out the Whirpools and installed the Samsungs.

We're moving to TV in about a month and need a refrigerator. I've been online and looked at consumerreports.org for ratings and information. The wife wants a french door, so that's where my research has centered. The best rated are, in no particuar order, LG Samsung and Kenmore. These three manufacturers also have the lowest incidence of problems among those that have ice makers. We're likely to end up with an LG.
