We are looking for information on Ladies Golf Leagues here in TV's. Does anyone know of a golf league with ladies that have handicaps around 10-14? If so please send me information on how to contact and join.

Except for the Ladies' Day scrambles on both the executive and championship courses, I don't think there are any formal leagues to join - people form their own, both from neighborhoods and beyond. That said, if you have or establish a handicap on the championship courses, you can play in their Ladies' Day scrambles on the long courses and meet other good golfers who might be interested.

One exception I think are golf leagues available thru other interest groups - such as Singles groups, maybe state groups (like The Ohio Club)? Not sure yet about those, but other people may know. Not exactly sure what's available thru that avenue.

If you can't find any, see if you can start one out of some other interest group perhaps. I think it just takes someone willing to attempt to set up the group tee times each week, and a following willing to commit to play regularly.

I personally am just a very average golfer on the executive courses, but I love to golf. I've met at least 3 women (1 on exec. course Ladies' Day and 2 just from random pairings) who gave me their calling cards and asked me to call when I get back down to play golf sometime. They also seemed to play in the same range of mediocrity and we seemed to hit it off. It is nice to play with golfers near the same ability, although I get tips from better golfers and remember that we all started as beginners.

My plan, as I'd like to get into a casual regular league with similar ability players, is to do the same, getting a foursome together, or more, and then seeing about forming a once a week, or once a month, or whatever works, informal league. It might also involve lunch or dinner for whoever can make it that week.

I know there are different groups out there, many are within a neighborhood, but many probably are not. I've been the "filler person" in both men's and women's groups like this. I'd say don't be afraid to just go out on your own.

Many of the villages within The Villages have their own women's 9-hole leagues. Some have their own web sites. Check those out too!

FYI - Wednesday Ladies Day on the Championship courses are not necessary scramble formats. Each week it changes and you must be a priority member to register. If you check the sports section of the paper they list the format for the upcoming weeks. If I remember correctly, Executive course Ladies day is the scramble format.

Thanks for responding, but, what do you mean OhioGirl? Something about Ladies Days on Wed.? But I don't even understand that. Where do you show up to play, which course and at what time or how do I find out???

I find it hard to believe there aren't already groups of 8-10-14-20 gals who play regularily. This IS the Villages, no???? LOL. If I can't find them soon I will be happy to try to create and organize a group to play a couple times a week, every week. Handicaps are necessary so that all level can play. The system does work to even the playing field. You in Ohiogirl???

OR if the Mens group welcome all, I would eagerly play with them. Whatever they throw in the pot, is fine with me. The handicap system does work. Heck, I just want to play, regularily on the championship course.

check golfthevillages.com and call the number near the bottom of the page for specific questions re the championship courses. They may be able to steer you to the right people. When I'm there, I usually sign up (by phone for the time being) for the executive course ladies' day scramble on Wednesday at Heron - because it's the closest to me at the moment and because I love the wildlife on that course. Can be 3 or more tee times, I understand. For some reason, I usually get the earliest one - 7:45 (that's why I sign up for the closest right now).

Tends to be average to good golfers who sign up for the Ladies' Day scrambles that I've been to (maybe 6 total), but sometimes beginners or less than average golfers, and that's ok too. All seem welcome. Have met some nice women who probably play golf at least 3-5 times a week. Some play on both exec. and championship courses. Good way to meet some golfers.

I have also signed up as a single on exec courses and played with all women, all men, or a mix of couple and single. I understand if you pay for the online tee-time program, you can tell ahead of time the sex of your playing partners. I have had fun with both. Sometimes all 3 other people are friends and sometimes we're all strangers.

Milky Way, I would suggest you attend a session of the Good Golf School. They have a lot of good information about golfing in The Villages. If you golf in The Villages it should be a requirement that you attend this school.

Here's the link with info:
http://www.districtgov.org/PdfView/PdfView.aspx?path='/PdfUpload/Good Golf School 2010.pdf'&ql=standard

Also ask your neighbors and anyone else you strike up a friendship with about getting together for golf. Other than the Ladies Days described above, there are no "golf leagues" as we knew them up north here in The Villages.

Good luck!

Milkyway - I have gone through the same problem that you are facing...I can't find any women that want to play the championship courses. I have been playing the exec courses with some of my friends, but no one wants to play on the bigger courses. And I don't feel comfortable just going out to play without knowing someone in the foursome. I would be willing to meet and play on Thursday if you are interested. My hubby is going out to play in the afternoon with his buddies, so I should get a chance to go play too! LOL

I will "private message" you now.
I have an appt. this AM and then I am going downtown to find out about that golf class which (agreeably) should be required when moving into TV.

I mostly play the championship courses and would love to play with you. We also have a small group who play every Sunday and are always needing "subs" who usually become "regulars" if you would like to join us there. And then there is another group that I play with on Fridays, its a group of ladies who go to a certain church (I am not a member of their church) but they asked me to play and I play regularly with them. However, I am only a 23 handicapper so you may not want to play with someone with such a "high" handicap. but, if you do, please feel free to send me an e-mail and I will try to "hook" you up with a couple of groups or even just go out and play with me.

My e-mail address is: ilvgolf2004@yahoo.com and my name is Monica.

Hello Ladies!

I will be in The Villages at the end of November, coming from California. I have a single handicap and play championship courses. I belong to three Women's clubs here, play Tues, Thurs. and Fri. I would love to be part of a woman's golf group. But I enjoy playing with all levels of golfers. Why? At one time I was a horrible golfer and at times I'm still a horrible golfer. That's the beauty of the handicap system, it makes the game a fair playing field.

Count me in please! I love everything about golf, especially the visiting.

See you later this month.

Hi from Traverse City...read your blog about wanting to play Championship courses at TV. I would gladly play with you..I am renting in Bonita in Dec. Even though you don't know me ..I would be willing to meet you and play..If you don't enjoy my company..no problem but at least you will play with a gal who also likes the bigger courses. I know you feel uncomfortable about playing with someone you don't know but take a chance and you just may enjoy yourself..You can answer me at: Paulets1@aol.com
