A Secret or did I miss something?

Driving by the Tally Ho nine at Glenview Country Club on almost a daily basis I have watched the rennovation, re-construction, or whatever is happening. I have not read or even heard rumors of exactly what is being accomplished. I certainly hope, with all the new grasses developed for courses, that the Villages is attempting to progess into, at the very least, a grass that does not require overseeding. Having been a member at numerous country clubs over the years when a major rennovation as this was undertaken the membership was always in the loop as to what was being undertaken and what the improvement would mean tho the quality of the course. Is this a secret or have I just missed the announcement?

I really don't think the membership is all that different in TV. Public and private courses usually tell the players what is going on with renovations because they are supposedly improving the golf course. What would be the problem with management telling the paying customer what is happening at Glenview? As for new grasses,don't hold your breath. Remember Orange Blossom and Tierra?

Fortunately I no longer have to deal with course or club interests....that is one of the many favorable things about living here....I've played some of the finest courses and some cow pastures and the one constant...get the ball into the hole...

While the conditions vary season to season they do a wonderful job on all the courses considering the amount of play and tough conditions(don't kid yourself...to keep this many courses in playable condition in this heat is expensive!!!!)...so I take the changes in conditions in stride and accept the wide variety(best consistent conditions so far have been in Sept/Oct)as another challenge to overcome...

Of course to have such a mind set you can't sweat the little things and golf in the larger scheme of it all is quite a small thing...in my oh-so-humble opinion....

I am not looking for a "vote or say" in what they are doing, I am wondering why it is necessary to keep it under wraps? Regarding assessments even "Public Courses" will be happy to tell their non member players what improvements are coming to promote the course updates. :shrug::

Are you enrolled in The Villages Email Information auto updates?
They tell me when rec center pools will be closed, boil water alerts, and other updates.
I haven't noticed information on improvements to golf courses, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's there.

Due to the heavy usage this winter almost all of the courses were/are in need of repairs. I'm sure if you contact TV customer service they will put you in touch with someone that can explain what is happening and how long it will take.

I am not aware of any new grass, bermuda or other that does not go dormant in the cooler winter temps. The exception being golf courses in the southernmost part of Florida. And that grass is usually 419 bermuda like most courses use. You can google varying opinions on overseeding from turf professionals and golf course superintendents. It's appears to me that with the high amount of play our courses have in the winter, overseeding is a necessity.
As for Glenview, ask the head professional, ask the staff, call golf course management. I doubt that it's a big secret.

Taxpayers have a vested interest in their public golf courses. That said, OP I can agree with you that the Villages Developer could (if he wanted to) have more transparency regarding projects within The Villages. However, I can also understand in the private sector the need to keep certain actions "close to the chest" until the right time to release that information. Do residents have the need to know what is going on with the renovation of a particular golf course?

Frankly, it's probably not a high priority with the Developer or with most Village residents. :confused:

The greens were killed (Gassed and Round-up)and sprigged on top of the existing greens that were killed (this is a no-till process). In 8 weeks we were putting on beautiful greens that did not require overseeding. This was over 10 years ago, so the grasses and technology are available.

Being a Member in TV means simply that you live here and are entitled to pay the going rates and fees to play on these ****tier than most conditioned golf courses. The layouts aren't too bad but the maintenance sucks. And again, you ain't really a member in anything. (When's the last time you were notified of a "Membership Meeting")? The answer is to stop bitching because it's abundantly clear that no one of authority cares.

I have seen that gassing processed used first hand. Champion bermuda greens are not uncommon, and they are actually a good putting surface. And it has been around since 1995 or so. And unless I am mistaken, that no till process is used for green reconstruction/rejuvenation, not for ordinary overseeding, hence the sprigging. Depending on your climate and number of rounds played per year, overseeding may not be necessary on fairways, tees and or greens. Some courses even paint their greens in the winter when they go dormant.
I think it's hard to compare your course in Port Charlotte to The Villages courses with respect to grass maintenance and durability. I have no doubt that your course was nice.
