Are there any special events in or close by The Villages on the 4th of July?

Strangely, The Villages doesn't do much for the 4th of July. I did notice in the paper this morning something about a concert at the Savannah Center. You might want to check out surrounding community web sites for fireworks.

Check Leesburg. Uncle Bob's Rock Shop and fireworks.

On Top of the World has a fireworks display at the towncenter. Might be a small charge for parking.

It sure would be nice if the developers did fireworks for the 4th - as a thank you to those of us who moved here and helped make this the place this is. Wonder why there aren't fireworks here...

Plenty of things to do outside The Villages. I am at a Marriott in Tampa enjoying a great time with my wife and Villages friends.

Get out sometimes and relax at a hotel for a couple of nights.

Great fireworks show last night and we saw it from our hotel room balcony! Fireworks, a glass or three of wine, and camaraderie of good friends. What could be better?

Interesting viewpoint! Personally I'm happy to have the privilege of living here and don't feel entitled to a thank you from the Morse family, I'd rather thank them for my quality of life. I can live happily without fireworks.

Fireworks displays can be very expensive. They are nice but I really haven't gone out of my way, to see them, for years.

Works, for me!

I agree with those who think there should be fireworks on the 4th of July THE DAY WE CELEBRATE OUR INDEPENDENCE. However, I don't think it is necessarily the Developer's responsibility, however, if the Morse family wanted to provide the Polo Fields that would be okay---after all, you need a big safe place for fireworks.

There are a number of Clubs in the area that could sponsor them along with other activities on July 4th. Maybe someday one of them will "bat up". I know that we were disappointed the first July 4th we spent in TV. We went to Leesburg---nice! Now, we are usually in Illinois---no shortage of fireworks or festivies here.

In Urbana, the Rotary Club of which I am a member sells 2,000 barbequed chicken half’s from 4 to 7Pm at the airport as a 4th of July money making project. We also collect beforehand enough money, about $7,500 to then orchestrate a very nice fireworks display that evening also at the airport. Now, where are the fireworks and airport in TV?

The population of Urbana is around 10,000 with about 38,000 in Champaign County. We had some 6,000 for the morning car show(600 plus show cars) just south of the airport and about that same number for the fireworks at the airport. I was able to take four kids up for EAA Young Eagle rides in the J-3 before working at the Rotary Barbecue. Phil Dirt and the Dozers, like Rocky & the Rollers in TV played before the fireworks. A lot of fun for everyone on the 4th.

Our airport is located in our town and has two museums and an airport café. Not bad for a town less than 1/10 the size of TV.

We draw many from outside our community and welcome them using our roads and facilities. People are parked along all roads leading to the airport and on public and private lands with a clear view of the fireworks. With all of the restrictions that TV has, I am not sure an event like this could take place in TV. This is not saying TV is a bad place but it surly doesn't seem to be as accommodating to outsiders as Urbana. Please tell me I a wrong.

Its a little late for this post but keep this in mind for next year. We went to Venetian Gardens Marina off Hwy 44 in Leesburg. It is just 20 minutes from The Villages. They put on a fabulous fireworks display every year. The fireworks are shot off of a barge in the middle of the bay on Lake Harris. We will attend next year as well as long as they continue hosting it. The area was very busy!

Close your eyes and imagine the still-lit fireworks embers landing in TV preserves and on rooftops [especially those roofs with gas lines run beneath them]. And then imagine the smoke from those same fireworks drifting into your air conditioning system or thru your lanai/bird cage while you are outside. Does your neighbor suffer from PTSD? And then think of all the dogs and other pets in TV and their adverse reactions to loud, booming noises. And then think about the traffic trying to exit TV venue area - honking horns and clogged roadways! And maybe that is why aerial fireworks displays are best left to communities outside of TV!

The Polo Fields, however, most likely they will be converted to houses in the future. Perhaps from a barge or raft in the middle of Lake Sumter. Fireworks in our hometown are always held on the driving range of the local golf course surrounded by homes around the golf course. No accidents---never a problem.

The feasaiability for fireworks is in TV---just not the desire or motivation and $20,000 to carry out a 20 minute fireworks display. :icon_wink:

Read post #27.

This post makes some good points but if the fireworks display is done by "professionas" I'm of the opinion that most of the concerns would not be a problem. A crowd of five to seven thousand people is always going to present some challenges but nothing that couldn't be handled.

Will there be noise and some smoke----yeah it's fireworks. Would it be beautiful---yeah if it's done professionally. Fact is some like fireworks and others not so much. You can say the same of a parade or many other activities.

Being from Illinois and a graduate of UI, I'm very familiar with the Urbana/Champaign area. The population of Champaign Urbana is approximately 85,000 and actually the MSA was 231,891 in 2010. Its difficult to know if you are in Champaign or Urbana unless you live there. The University of Illinois Main campus is located in " Chambana" with it's some 45,000 students. Not really a small town by any stretch of your imagination. It's a nice area but COLD and snow in the winter. I will pass being there in the winter at my age! ;)

Spent Independence Day Weekend at Disney World watched fireworks from Grand Floridian, great show. EPCOT Centers were not so good as only a few high ones, the Studios all we heard as the noise. A new building was built in front of our building, for the Disney Vacation Club.

It’s easy to let other communities put on fireworks to go there and enjoy them. It’s harder to arrange to have fireworks in your own neighborhood. As almost every other community celebrates the fourth with fireworks, it’s a little strange to me that the patriotic people of The Villages would not have a fireworks display somewhere in a city of 110,000 people. I can live without fireworks but it’s still a little peculiar. Maybe I am too young or too new to this environment.

Urbana, Ohio at the turn of the century, 1900, had about six thousand in population and in 115 years has just about doubled. Pete Dye, the golf course architect was born in Urbana.

I love all of Ohio. We will be going to Urbana later this summer to celebrate a milestone birthday for a family member.

I too find it strange that the community that waves the flag on every other occasion does so little on the 4th. Lake Sumter is the perfect locale for a fireworks display since they could be viewed from so many locations around the lake.

I suspect that one of the reasons is that the display would be open to the public, not just Villagers and the influx of non-Villagers would be significant. Then there is the matter of liability, the sale of alcoholic beverages since the the Town Squares will be selling and of course the cost which would be borne either by our amenities fee or the commercial businesses or a combination of both. Add the cost of the police, fire and other support services that would need to be available to non Villager and I suspect it just isn't a viable event for this type of community. Just my opinion.

Living here is not a privilege! We don't go through a selection committee to see who is allowed in!
If it were, why would our sales rep have kept calling us after Lifestyle visit with available lots, pushing to buy before discount went away, etc. The Developers need us to buy and need to keep us happy or many will move out.

A place with this large of a population needs a fairground for things like a firework's show as part of a day celebration. Either charge for it of pass the bucket.

Ethnic clubs could hold festivals their.

Those who would like to see a nice fireworks display in TV (access by golf cart) can put that in the annual survey. Lake Sumter Landing or Polo Fields would be possibilities.

As you know, they are controlled by the Developer. Get an appointment and report back to TOTV your results. Should be interesting.

Otherwise make the annual trip to Leesburg---they have a nice fireworks show.

Leesburg is pretty close to where we live. I love my country but I have seen fireworks many times. I am content to watch them on Television until a new generation of little sparkling eyes comes along.
