"...A society that looks at a 65 year old male Olympian and, with a straight face, declares him a her and "a new normal" cannot have a conversation about mental health or evil because that society no longer distinguishes normal from crazy and evil from good. Our American society has a mental illness -- overwhelming narcissism and delusion -- and so cannot recognize what crazy or evil looks like."

EXCELLENT link and thanks. Good post.
This is not political, but I understand why it is here, but this nation better look beyond that partisan divide and begin to address the inner strength that this country is allowing to disappear. ALL ideaogolies are at fault.

However, alow me to add to my post.
I do believe there is a gun element to this story, albeit a bit of an aside.
I have completely changed my thinking on guns recently

I read the link, all I can say is "HUH?".

I also read the link and it is ridiculous.
The writer is basically stating that Roof is just evil personified. I read this as though he is Satan's helper walking around on Earth. I am not going to go into religious beliefs.
Why wasn't this young man committed to a psych hospital when he told friends he was going to shoot up a campus and told others of his extreme hatetred of blacks? Because they didn't tell anyone!
IF any of us knows of such a person-and I hope we don't- please tell the authorities of what they said. Drop a dime on them immediately if you have reason to think they are serious!

See something say something just doesn't seem to work in our permissive don't offend anybody society.
The gun was innocent!

THIS, to me, the writer is "basically saying" very clearly....
"As a nation, when these things happen, we never have the conversation about real evil. We also never have the conversation about mental health. For that matter, we don’t have honest conversations about why some kid in Minnesota or Alabama would want to go join ISIS and kill their fellow citizens or why some kid would want to join neo-nazis or a gang.
Instead, we descend into partisan conversations where everything is political and neither side can concede or acknowledge the other’s points. Everyone and everything gets blamed while ignoring the actual person who killed"
He also used the current situation as a lead in, and not the subject of his theory.
BUT some play right into what he was saying !

Excellent observation and insight you make ... the poster you were commenting on completely missed the point, yet as you say, helps make it even if unknowingly by him (or her?)

No, I think you missed the point. I discussed mental illness as something that should have been mentioned to authorities but wasn't. I urged others to "drop a dime" if they know anyone with the same attitudes as Roof.
Nothing I said was political. Nothing was said about gun control. I just do not go along with the idea that there is Evil walking on the streets. It is a mental illness that has to be locked away.
The crap about Bruce Jenner and a new normal has absolutely nothing to do with the conversation. Jenner's decision to become a woman harms no one. When transgender begins to actually harm someone, speak up. Until then, don't.

It's difficult at times to respond to your posts because they can be so discombobulated it's not clear where you're coming from. Nonetheless, you perfectly illustrate the author's point:
"...society no longer distinguishes normal from crazy etc"
It's not about harming someone in this instance, it's about recognizing normal which you clearly are incapable of doing.

Good grief, all this anxiety about a RedState blogger. Hardly a good source to stimulate a non partisan discussion.

You think you sound normal? Think again as you retreat to your curmudgeon troll hole.

I think you are making a point for this author.
I read all links provided, and I read this before noticing the site.
The author contends that our inability to ignor politics, and he is VERY specific in acknowledging both ideologies,YET despite this authors message, you dismiss it because of his politics. which I this case is irrelevant.
Can you really not see that their are national issues that do not demand a red/blue divide ?
Are you so dogmatic and extreme as to paint everything with a political brush ?
YOU are who the author is speaking of

Yes, I do.
The fact that you are even debating it indicates you cannot recognize the physical reality of the world, even if you don't like it. I can't say it any plainer -- Reality is by definition objective, and once you make it subjective, one can go anywhere. You may wake up one day, for example, like our friend Rachel, and decide you are a swan, or an alligator, or maybe just hard core leftist? Only the latter would be correct.
Per Dr. Paul R. McHugh, the former psychiatrist-in-chief for Johns Hopkins Hospital and its current Distinguished Service Professor of Psychiatry, said that transgenderism is a 'mental disorder' that merits treatment, that sex change is 'biologically impossible,' and that people who promote sexual reassignment surgery are collaborating with and promoting a mental disorder.

The American Psychiatrist Association too transgender OUT of the DSM back in 2012. Transgender is not a mental disorder. You and your boy, Paul McHugh, had better come to the 21st century. Beaver and Wally have grown up, June died of an overdose of prozac she washed down with a martini, and Ward died in a car crash while he was drunk.

... Ward died in a car crash while he was drunk.
You're confusing Ward's manner of demise with that of Barack Obama Sr.

This post and the one about the President's father both show a lack of class.
There also was no evidence of drinking in the instance of Laura but she was driving fast and ran a stop sign and a friend got killed.

America's problem is technology enhanced narcissism. Selfies with the smart phone is one example. The belief that one political ideology has a perfect solution to America's problems is the other.
