In this morning's online newspaper, there is a photo of an egret eating a snake.

Should this aggressive bird be trapped and euthanized for this horrible act.

And should the photo taker be chided for not attempting to save the snake?.

Not all snakes go down so easily.

I dont mind the egrets eating snakes, but they better not touch a duck!

It is not against nature for an alligator (or turtle) to grab a duck. It is only against mankind's sense & sensibilities - those very senses & sensibilities that are fed by eating, among other things, duck (sometimes under the non de plume of Peking). Alligators have been eating ducks (and fish and turtles and birds) for thousands of years but it is only when they are seen doing so they are then deemed worthy of being 'dispatched' so the trapper can sell the hide and ....... gasp ........ meat for humankind to eat.

I watched an egret eat a big black snake while waiting to tee off the third hole at Bogart. Quite a sight as was the alligator I saw chowing don a duck the alligator had to swallow half the pond to get it down. This place indeed is blessed with some of the most interesting wildlife and that's a plus

We have such wonderful views of plant and wildlife here. It's like living in the world's best, and God's own, zoological park.

Perhaps you didn't understand my post about the ducks was tongue in cheek. I watched Gator's gobble up big blue herons, cranes, etc. it's the food chain. My nice black snakes rid my lake front property of vermin. It's the way nature intended it. I loved the post that said "did you think they ate Tofu?" Lol

Uh-oh. Here we go again. FWS will now be trapping all egrets. I didn't read all the responses, did some nitwit try to retrieve the snake from its mouth?

I didn't read it all either but I think the RC club was giving the one legged duck a ride on their boat when an aggressive egret came along and tried to ruin their fun. Fortunately a snake wrapped itself around the beak before the he got to the boat.

No, of course not. Egrets are cute, ducks are cute, snakes and alligators are not cute.

I once saw a guy kill a snake because it was eating a frog. The frog died as well as it was pretty damaged by being half swallowed by the snake.

But again, frogs are cuter then snakes to the man decided that it was not right that this snake be eating a frog.

I for one like Gardner snakes and black/rat snakes. Gardners catch unwanted insects and the black snakes keep the rat population sometimes at bay. But, in the game of eat or be eaten that's way it goes. I seen little lizards eat a bug. I also got colony of bats roosting in My CYV wall crack. So you insect lovers try to avoid this awful site. The 10 to 15 bats come to roost is neat way they duck and dive around objects in my back yard!

Found baby bat almost ready to fledge on my sidewalk, got long stick he climbed on it (course upside down) and Put him up to the crack between wall sections and he quickly went down to roost.

Exactly. We love to give human attributes to animals. Brown bears are cute too until they are tearing a human being apart.

Cats are so adorable. Did you ever watch a lion bite into the head of a live monkey?

Nature can be brutal and ugly.
