The bristles can come off the wire brush and remain on the grill thus getting in your food. You then ingest them and they can get caught in your throat, stomach, or intestines.

It has to do with tiny wire debris from the wire brush that gets stuck in your food. Interesting!

Use a ball of wadded up tin foil. Works like a charm.

I have used a wire brush forever but also use a cleaner and then wipe the grates with a wet golf towel. I also replace the brush every year, maybe more since I moved here.
