It is so patriotic even the Confederate flag is being flown here ! Just saw one in someone's backyard off Buena Vista. I do believe it's as American as the Stars and Stripes, political correctness shouldn't apply here. Happy 4th of July !

Any national holiday if you want a healthy dose of American spirit just drive through the small Florida town of Bunnell Florida. Every 50 feet they have a 3 by 4 ft. Flag on a pole on most of the town streets. Every holiday year in, year out. My favorite delivery spot on my old job.

Thanks for the link. I will never get tired of hearing that song. In my prior life, my son went out and photographed our community after 9/11 with all the flags waving. We put all those photo's and Lee's song on our web site and got thousands of hits.

I think you read way too much into Rick's post. I'm a Yankee from Maine but lived in the South for many years. To many, including those who are highly educated, the Confederate Battle Flag is a reminder of relatives who fought and died for a cause in the past. IN THE PAST!

I have relatives who fought in the Revolutionary War. At least one fought under a yellow flag with a coiled rattle snake. (Don't tread on me) Despite the fact that flag is disliked by many, it reminds me of a time when it was carried by our first Marines into battle. Those who don't like that flag just jump to a conclusion without knowing about, or even attempting to understand, it's historic use and meaning. There are a couple of dates each year when I put a small version of that flag in my yard alongside similar sized Stars and Stripes. If it offends any body so be it. It's important to me and I know why.

Sometimes people just read read too much into symbols. Their sensitivity causes them to respond to a perceived injustice that simply is not intended. PC has gone way to far.

The flag of the Confederacy has nothing to do with race, was not the symbol of a revolution, nor not believing in the American ideal. It was in fact the epitome of the American ideal. The right to demand self determination is as American as the Southern gentlemen we call our founders. Please spare me the 1960's BS .
