I went for a ride this AM (9-10:30). North to south on BV from north of 466 to Hillsborough, then north on MB. There were several roundabouts(RAs) that workers were replanting and doing general maintenance. Cones were placed merging the left lanes on BV and MB, then completely closing off the inside lane of the RAs. Never had to put my foot down; nice traffic flow. Granted the traffic is not as congested as winter, but the traffic flow was just as quick as in the two-lane RAs. Try it and see. But hurry; they work fast.

Fine for maintenance once in a while. But not a chance of working on a permanent basis.

I agree. It's a recipe for disaster. You'll have two lanes merging into one at every round about.

Irk me again. it is not the circles, it that I never think other people drive well, the conflict between our wittle brochure and federal laws for highway markings and and that people just think about...did I say they do not drive well? I never think people drive well.

This reminds me of a certain appliance commercial ..."Its the dryer is always the dryer"...., OK Its the DRIVER its always the DRIVER:a040::a040:

I tend to try to avoid the roundabouts, but when I need to use one, I am constantly looking left, right, in front, in the mirrors, and I USE TURN SIGNALS. So far I have had only one close call, I was cutoff from someone continuing around when I was getting off. I continue to be amazed at the number of people exiting from the inside roundabout lane to the RIGHT, resident lane, they should know they can go in the visitor lane with their card. This action cutoffs someone in the outside lane going to the resident lane.

Please do not shoot the messenger, just my humble opinion.

That can't happen with single lane RAs.

Lots of things wouldn't happen with single lane RA's. Number one on the list...getting to where you want to go in a reasonable amount of time.

Sorry, but bad highway change to single lane roundabouts + bad drivers DO NOT equal good, safe traffic flow---rarely do 2 wrongs = a right. If the driver can't handle a simple roundabout in TV, good luck on the Belt Parkway in heavy traffic or US 1 in Woodbridge NJ

Best way to use them is to assume nobody know what they are doing except you and I... And sometimes I am not too sure of the two of us either.

It only cuts off someone in the outside lane if there is someone in the outside lane. Changing lanes at that point is no different than changing lanes anywhere else. You need to use your mirrors and be aware of other cars in your area. It has nothing to so with it being a round about. I do it quite often, but I am always sure that there is no car in the right hand lane. If there is, I'll stay in my lane and go through the visitor's entrance.

This is not rocket science. Just treat the round abouts as though they are straight roads.

I see a very few people using their signal lights in the roundabouts and I think that is a good thing! It's not needed---slows things up and hard to trust them anyway.

Although single lane roundabouts are probably the safest and they move rather quickly, they only work if they are fed by single lane roads feeding the roundabout. Won't work with two lanes on BV and Morse.

Where I moved from, we had two RBs that were single lanes that were fed from two lanes. It worked very well, even during rush hour.

I don't buy it, unless there were low traffic volumes even during rush hour. You simply can't funnel two busy lanes of traffic into a single lane without delays...and conflict.

I know intuitively it doesn't make sense. But I lived it. It does work better than you might think.

Sorry, outlaw, I mean no disrespect. If there is very little traffic in the approaching streets, it could work. But if two lane streets are operating anywhere near their capacity, and they are then funneled down into a single lane, delays and conflicts are the result. The laws of physics (and traffic) demand it.

You can't put 10 pounds of potatoes in a 5 pound bag.

You can if the bag has a hole in the bottom.....

What was the traffic count? Lot of factors when you say they worked that you haven't shared. I have driven through the same arrangement in NJ over the years, which is why most were removed.

Respectively submitted, you have too much time on your hands. Reducing round-a-bouts to one lane is going to create the predictable, a rush by drivers to be first enter this one lane creating a greater hazard. round-a-bouts are the cats pajamas and so easily manipulated. clearly and generally speaking people concerned about round-a-bouts are same sort of people concerned about on/off ramps, three way stops, going through the villages gates etc

Comparable traffic as BV north of 466.
