This butterfly was seen recently in The Villages. The first one is the female and the second one is the male.

The wing span is 4-5 inches. Tiger swallowtail butterflies live about one month. The eastern species is the state butterfly of Delaware, Georgia and South Carolina, and the state insect of Virginia.

thank-you for sharing
They are beautiful. Where in TV were you?
I spend a lot of time just looking around on the golf courses when it's not my turn to hit. There is so much to see.

Thank you all. I photographed this butterfly out by Lake Deaton. I got the female first and then was very lucky the male came along. I believe the flower is a pickerel(sp) flower.
