looks like it's pretty cool, a Florida thing, but what is the real value? Just thinking about it. Thanks.

If I lived in zone 10b or below I would have probably joined IPS years ago. But since I'm stuck up here in Alabama zone 7b I'm limited to growing only the few cold-hardy palms that will survive here, and you'll find there is very little discussion of those palms on the IPS boards. Instead I belong to the the Southeastern Palm Society which is much smaller of course, and mainly folks like me just trying to keep my few palms alive thru our 7b winters.
If you're a palm nut & truly enjoy growing various species, then joining any palm society will give you access to an unlimited amount of help & information from others who also share your passion for palms. Most have state or regional seasonal meetings where they tour public or member's gardens, and also exchange seeds or small seedling palms.
