"More than 21 million Social Security numbers were compromised in a breach that affected a database of sensitive information on federal employees held by the Office of Personnel Management, the agency announced Thursday.

individuals who had undergone background investigation, OPM said. The remaining 1.8 million records belonged to other individuals, mostly applicants' families.

The records that were compromised include detailed, sensitive information about the individuals, including fingerprint data. OPM says 1.1 million compromised files included fingerprints"

Then this of course at the same time......our leaders at work...

"Computer snarls that temporarily shut down the New York Stock Exchange and grounded the United Airlines fleet on Wednesday were a vivid reminder of how reliant Americans are on technology and how jarring such failures can be.

Though they were not attributed to a malicious computer attack, they underscored the continuing demand for cybersecurity legislation now entangled in Congress.

A few weeks ago, Senator Mitch McConnell, the Kentucky Republican and majority leader, said a major computer network protection bill was so urgently required in light of increased threats that he felt compelled to append it to an unrelated Pentagon bill.

“The need for this smart, bipartisan, transparent measure couldn’t be clearer,” he said as Democrats blocked it. They did so because they believed he had attached the measure to try to trap Democrats into voting for the defense bill, which remains tied up in a budget fight.

But since the impasse on the Senate cybersecurity legislation, there have been no moves to revive it.

Concerned no, scared yes cyber attacks have been on the national agenda for a very long time but we have government agencies that are operating like a keystone kops. We have citizens who think nothing of sharing their utmost secrets over the internet but scoff at NSA megadata programs which caused Silicon valley and TeleCom companies to run scared.

One of the most threatening types of hacking involves our national electrical grids. Hackers could create an electro-magnetic blast that would shut down just about everything phones, lights, etc

But our politicians are too busy with arguing about bupkis. Our citizens are more interested in the sex habits of immoral and irresponsible celebrities and the news media catering to their tastes.

We are getting what we deserve

We the people have become self centered and self oriented and will not do much of anything until such time as they are personally affected.

Let the utilities become disrupted for an extensive period of time and then we will have the politicians and the media turning it into a political crap fight in the process of blame assignment.

Block World Wide Web form 3rd world countries that main personnel income is hacking. Go after hackers like we do terrorist that write and sell hacking programs. After all they are terrorizing the world. Also punish those in charge at the top of agency that gets hacked. Maybe new supervision would spend more time doing their job than long lunches, business meeting at country club, or taking business trips to Vegas. We as nation at sleep at the wheel. One disaster after another. This what you get when most government high management positions placement done with neptunium and the good old boy under the table system.

Do you get the feeling that the people running our government are incompetent?

Do you believe that they are focused more on the perks they can get or their public unions can get for them without any corresponding increase in quality and production?

Do you wonder how the IRS in conjunction with GAB can work together to stop conservative action groups without legal cause. Isn't it frightening to recognize that this agency and government agency for that matter has that much political power over people lives?

Do you feel confident and safe and do you believe the spokespeople for Obama rely a cogent message when giving news conferences? Or do your eyebrows furrow?

One of the most significant breaches of security the hacking of Office of Personnel Management was not know for months , not reported for months and can't get near the same amount of air time as Bruce Jenner on CNN, MSNBC or any liberal media outlet

Further yet the Department head of OPM refuses to resign because she did nothing wrong. This breach outed many of not most of our security people and Obama hasn't fired her.

Well we know which Republican candidate if president would have fired her.

Concerned you bet because this Administration appears to have no sense of urgency...heck it seem to not have any sense at all. It acts like a dog that got kick in the behind and can't fathom why

Once again I say progressive can't lead and they are leaving us with a big mess.

"""""""""""""""""I slightly disagree, WG employee's get far less perk, have to produce, and hasn't had pay raise for nearly 7 years. GS's are the managers with all the perk and have umpteen steps wage raise per pay grade. """""""""

"U.S. Office of Personnel Management chief Katherine Archuleta resigned on Friday, a day after the Obama administration said massive computer hacks at the government agency had put the personal data of more than 21 million people at risk.

The White House, facing harsh criticism from Republicans in Congress, said Archuleta had stepped down and that OPM was stepping up cyber security measures, such as limiting the number of "privileged users" of computer data."
