Many people are angry that San Francisco is a sanctuary city for illegal immigrants.

Did you realize that there are many other sanctuary cities? These include Dallas and Austin in Texas and Miami, Florida.

Just Google "sanctuary cities in US" and you will come up with around 200 cities and counties that are refuges.

These have been around for years dating back into Reagan's administration.

yep and that is why folks are upset, and once again it becomes a political divide. If you check you will find many Republican attempts to either stop this or make the punishment more severe, but in todays news...

"Hillary Clinton's campaign sought to make clear she supports sanctuary cities following criticism on San Francisco's release of an immigrant here illegally who is accused of shooting and killing a woman"

Clinton Campaign: Sanctuary Cities Can Help Public Safety - NBC News (http://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/clinton-campaign-sanctuary-cities-can-help-public-safety-n389186)

Once again, an issue faces the country and instead of talking TO EACH OTHER, our politicians simply seek a position that will get votes.

Miami is a sanctuary city. Why hasn't Republican governor Rick Scott done anything about it in the two terms he has been in charge of the state?

Let's also ask the same question of Rick Perry of Texas concerning Austin and Dallas.

I can understand Democrat governors not doing anything but these two are supposed to be tough law and order type governors.

You do understand (maybe) that there are extremely compelling reasons why sanctuary status has been utilized? And that law enforcement on a local level is supportive of that status? What is the big complaint heard about the ability of cops to get information about crimes? No one will talk to them. If you can't get the witnesses to a crime to talk, no crimes get solved. When a beat cop is required to assess the immigration status of all of his contacts and arrest for deportation any person who is found to be here illegally, that cop is not going to be able to investigate any crime involving a lot of people. When a woman is here undocumented and she is a victim of a crime, whether by an undocumented person or a legal person, she cannot go to the police for help if the cops are going to instead arrest her, and a violent criminal goes free. So to help with local crime enforcement many cities have decided that they WANT the cooperation of their community in crime reporting and crime solving. If they are instead going to be immigration detectives then the cooperation of the community will not exist. Thus the decision not to act as ICE agents in their daily operations. Comprende amigo?

Rick Perry was the Governor of a border state with a large Hispanic constituency. Rick Scott is probably persona non grata in Miami.

"In 2007, Republican representatives introduced legislation targeting sanctuary cities. Reps. Brian Bilbray, R-Cal., Ginny Brown-Waite, R-Fla., Thelma Drake, R-Va., Jeff Miller, R-Fla., and Tom Tancredo, R-Colo introduced the bill. The legislation would make illegal immigrant status a felony, instead of a civil offense. Also, the bill targets sanctuary cities by withholding up to 50 percent of Department of Homeland Security funds from the cities.[13]

On September 5, 2007, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff told a House committee that he certainly wouldn't tolerate interference by sanctuary cities that would block his "Basic Pilot Program" that requires employers to validate the legal status of their workers. "We're exploring our legal options. I intend to take as vigorous legal action as the law allows to prevent that from happening, prevent that kind of interference."[14][15] On May 5, 2009, Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue signed a bill into law that prohibited sanctuary city policies in the state of Georgia.[16]

On June 5, 2009, the Tennessee state House passed a bill banning the implementation of sanctuary city policies within the state of Tennessee.[17]

A July 30, 2010, editorial in the Wall Street Journal, written by the former general counsel of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, questioned the future of these havens in light of the federal court decision that on July 28 struck down key provisions of Arizona's immigration act (SB 1070).[18] It stated, in part: "Judge Susan Bolton ... handed Arizona a significant victory against renegade localities seeking to undercut our nation's immigration laws."

In May 2010, the Texas State Legislature was working on a law to ban the practice.[19]

In June 2011, Texas Governor Rick Perry proposed legislation to ban sanctuary cities, SB 9, to the Special Session agenda for the State Legislature.[20] Public hearings on the sanctuary cities legislation were held before the Texas Senate Transportation and Homeland Security Committee on June 13, 2011.[21]

This, AS WITH ALMOST ALL ISSUES, has any facets. Problem we have is people just run for political cover, try to make it the fault of the other guy instead of talking about it and looking for solutions. How about that for a novel idea.

So many posts on here are not even close to being grounded in fact, and they end up calling others names with no justification other than that is what they have been conditioned to do.

Politicians, by the way, prey on that very fact.
