You might want to try Jon Townsend, Certified Computer Tech. We have used him since we moved to TV. Excellent, a real geek. Charges by the hour and if you call 352-250-1686 you can ask for his rates. Highly recommend.

It is usually cheaper to buy a new computer vs repairs. If computer is over a couple of years old it is probably obsolete anyway.

We used a TOTV advertiser and was very pleased. It is Computer Corner. Located just south of 466A on 27/441. Phone number is 352-460-1155. Two geeks are Nick and Chance. It is just past the Wal-Mart going toward Leesburg. They were fast, honest and very reasonable.

Depending on if it is a simple virus removal and cleaning up the hard drive. Not that expensive. Obsolete would depend on how much "latest and greatest" you need. Lots of folks only go on for email and reading the news.

Before things go completely south, you might want to do a backup that can restore your files to a new or repaired computer. I use an online service called Carbonite

If you haven't already, you could try a virus removal tool such as HitmanPro (http://www.surfright.nl/en/products/) to see if that fixes it.

Pretty much the only way to be sure you remove all malware is to back up your personal files, then wipe the computer and do a clean re-install of the operating system and all your applications (including deleting and re-creating the boot partition). Anything short of that, you'll just never know if you got everything. You've got to have all the installation media (CD's, DVD's, etc.) for the OS and your applications (or if you got one when you bought the PC, a so-called "restore disk" that puts the computer back the way it was when you bought it).
This is not at all fun. Depending on how many applications you have, it can take anywhere from several hours to several days to get it all back the way it was. If you hire someone to do it for you, be sure they do a clean re-install and not just run some malware-removal tool that claims to be able to remove everything. There are some pretty good ones, but nothing short of the clean re-install can deliver reasonable confidence that you got everything. Anyone who does this for a living has my utmost respect. Its hard work.
