I know there's been a previous thread a few years ago on this topic since closed. I am a beginner golfer looking for other beginners/semi interested in playing perhaps once a week come fall. I am new to TV as well and have not played here yet. I'm feeling if I don't jump in my apprehension :22yikes:will just increase . There's only one way to improve and learn and that's by playing! Anyone interested? I plan on attending the TV's golf etiquette class as well.

I have played once, years ago. But plan to REALLY learn to play. We live here full time in Gilchrist and I would love to play with some other beginners.
I inquired about the "New to Golf" lesson series and was disappointed that for over $250 they don't get you out on the course at all.
I have ridden along with my hubby as a spectator and learned quite a bit. But I do need lessons.
If you form a group, please keep me in mind. Maybe we could get 8-12 ladies and make some new friends while we learn.

Girls, I live in Pinellas. We are a group of girls that are fairly new to playing golf. Some started playing in January. We do have a great time with lots of laughs. We play on Tuesday mornings and then all go to lunch. We are a group where most of us are south of 466A. You can PM me if you are interested in playing now. We are all still learning and taking lessons and learning from each other. You are welcome to join us. There are about 10 of us that are here all year and about 4 girls that are "winter girls". Some weeks certain girls can play and some cannot. So, there are always spaces for a new face and a new friend.

Ladies,
I began this thread and unfortunately, literally the next day after my posting I had a tremendously bad fall here in MI. I tripped on some uneven pavement broke my upper arm and tore my rotator cuff. I've had surgery however, my recovery will be long. I won't be up to golf in October. It's my first full fall/winter in TV and my planned activity list is now very short. I hope someone puts this group together it has the potential for fun and friendship! If this group does come together, don't be surprised if I try to "squeeze" in when I'm back to "normal".
I'm refusing to feel sorry for myself as it could have been alot worse. I'm looking forward to coming to TV and meeting new people and exploring the activities that I'm able to do. Thanks for all your responses!

Hi Scorpiosquared... I'm also a Scorpio so we will either love or hate each other!
We are moving to TV in late October and I would absolutely love to play with another anxious beginner. I'm determined to learn but am new to the game and frankly have been afraid to play up north where people seem frustrated if you are slow. The fact that there are golf courses here specifically for newbies is amazing and takes away a lot of the pressure. I'm looking for a relaxing way to get outside regularly and play with other nice "chicks with sticks". How do we stay in touch... befriend?

ScorpioSquared,
Your accident and subsequent surgery sounds dreadful! Please take it easy and let you body heal. Golf will still be here when you are ready to play!
I finished the "new to golf school" on Friday. The instruction was good regarding technique and hand placement etc. But we had very limited time with a club actually in our hands. We only used 4 clubs, so I still have lots to learn.
I was under the impression that we would have the clubs for the week in order to practice in the afternoons, but that is not the case. That was very disappointing to me. I would have liked to practice what I was taught each day.
Once the course is over we have access to "demo clubs" for 30 days. I went to get my demo clubs today and they gave me 4 clubs (5 wood, 7 iron, Putter, Pitching wedge) and the bag. No driver. Oh, well.....
My hubby took me out to play my first round today. I was pathetic. But I can get out of the bunkers well....that is the one bright spot.
Lots of room to improve....that's for sure.
I am certainly interested in a newbie ladies group. PM me with info ladies, please!

There are many groups for beginners. I personally run one on Thursdays toward late day or early evening. The group runs from the second week of July to May or June depending on weather. You can join the group no matter were you live in the villages. Male or female, single or couples. The group plays from the green tees. We have games on the course to improve your golf skills. All you need to learn is the village rules of golf. Which is free from any golf course in the villages. My email is (gerrijerry@aol.com) . You will need to provide village ID, a phone number and an email to join. Each week you would receive an email with where we are playing and when. After golf many go to eat out. You do not need to keep score. There is NO cost to join.

So if I told you that I am so new I actually haven't figured out what Village we will be in, would that scare you off playing with me? Our new home is on Summerchase and I'm told that's sort of across from the Savannah Rec center. I've never seen the house. :(

OK The UHAUL is packed and we arrive in The Villages on Wednesday. Would it be good for those who are in TV to get together for a meet and greet? Those not yet in town .......we'll do emails and phone numbers. Then we can actually come up with a plan that includes all who are interested. I'm thinking Palmer Ledgends might be a central location where we could meet in the parking lot and organize ourselves over lunch. What do you think, ladies? Also, not being very adept at these sites, how do we share private info like phone and email?

Palmer is the Country Club. The courses associated with Palmer are all championship courses which are harder and require a fee to play or additional membership to play. It would be best as beginners to stick with the executive courses. The exec courses are free to play. You pay a $4.00 fee for each person playing golf and riding in a golf cart. Folks who walk the courses pay nothing. We buy a yearly trail fee. It's easier that way. The executive courses have numerical par values from 1-5, 1 being the easiest. I suggest we start with
courses with a 1 or 2. I am not at home right now to look up the names of the courses when we all meet for lunch at Palmer, I can bring a list of the courses.

Good idea to meet for lunch at Palmer and get this thing rolling. BTW, safe travels and welcome to TV.
The best way is for each person who is interested to send a private message(pm) on this site to you. You can either answer each person with a PM or just gather the email addresses and send a group email with a date and time to meet at Palmer. I will send you a PM to get you started😀. JC

Hi Dottie,
I hope you continue to enjoy and improve on your golf. Don't feel too disappointed that you weren't given a driver to practise with. The driver is probably the most difficult club in the bag to hit (followed closely by a 64 degree lob wedge!) and beginners that start off struggling with a driver are putting themselves at a disadvantage right from the start. They grind away with this fearsome club every time they stand on the tee and are only giving themselves negative feedback which won't help their later playing ability. The pro gave you the most sensible clubs to start with. A 5 wood (or even a 7 wood) is much easier to use: not only is is shorter, but the loft will get the ball in the air and you will feel like you are hitting 'real' golf shots. This will give you confidence as well as more enjoyment. As an experiment, you could try going to the driving range with a borrowed driver and a 5 wood, and seeing which one gets the ball further - you might be surprised.
I hope you don't think I'm dictating, I'm only offering a little friendly advice although I do sincerely believe it will make you a better golfer in the long run, especially if you combine it with a few lessons.
I'm just another lady golfer who was lucky enough to benefit from a very good pro and I like to pass on his suggestions whenever I can.
Enjoy your group!!

Ok.....having driven through the pouring rain from PA I'm so happy to be here. Looks like we have enough interest to organize ourselves. Can we possibly meet on Monday, October 5, at 12:00 in the parking lot at Palmer Ledgends Golf Course? If we go into the lot and all the way to the right and park in front of the building where some of us took lessons, we can gather and go talk over lunch. Neither the time nor date is etched in stone. I just chose something to get the ball rolling. For those not in town yet......no worries. We'll organize an email list to include all who are interested. I am not good at this type of forum and don't really know how to,private message so responses here would be good.. If you have others who are not on this forum but interested....bring them. Anyone really wanting to come but needing a different date or time.......let this forum know. Here's hoping this works out!!

I have a quilt class that day and time but let me know what you d

Ok.....looks like enough can do Monday. We'll meet at Palmer in the parking lot by the golf school at 12:00. Our goal will be to come up with a comprehensive list of interested golfers. We will include all who either have a previous commitment on Monday as well as those who are not yet in town. We can post the results of the meeting on this forum for those unable to attend.

I ke now I'm in the minority - I'm still working full time, so if there's any chance for a group in the evening or weekends, that would be great. Thanks!

I plan on attending the TV's golf etiquette class as well.
i am interested - I work Part time and that might keep me from playing on certain days but i can try to work around it... I live in Buttonwood...

Just a point of clarification.....Monday's is not necessarily the chosen golfing day....just a day to have a meet and greet. We will collect real names, emails , addresses and phone numbers. So just stay tuned!

So glad that this is going to happen. As the OP on the this thread I wish I could participate. My arm is still a work in progress since my July fall. I can't jump in now but could you please include me on your interested list? I'm hopeful one day I will! Great way to organize!:pepper2:

Well, ladies, 8 of us met today at Palmer Ledgends for lunch and we started the ball rolling. We found that Tuesday was a good day for the majority of the gals so we decided on that as our playing day. We also put together an email list that allows us to move off this forum. We realize that some of you were unable to attend the luncheon for a variety of reasons. You need to PM cab1948 so you can be added to the email list. We are taking baby steps here as we attempt to reach the top of the learning curve. Our next step is to collect ID numbers so we can set up start times. There will be missteps along the way but we will figure it all out. In the meantime......think of a name for our group!. Again......PM cab1948 to get on the email list. Happy golfing!

For those of you continuing to post....please PM cab1948 with your name, phone number, email and village name. Tina, I will add your email to the list but please contact cab1948 with the additional info so it can be included for the group. All group members will receive everyone's contact info. It is my impression that we will meet again before we actually "tee off". Our next meeting will be announced via email.

Check out Sandra and Ryan at Golf YOUR Best in Oxford (352-751-5122). They offer individual and group lessons, as well as great 1 hour short game clinics. They also offer on course playing lessons. They are both wonderful instructors. Good luck with your golf group and happy golfing!!!!

Hi Girls:
First I second Sandra Chester at Golf Your Best. She is awesome. Great way to start to learn and play. I took her week long lesson and continue with a 1/2 hr private when, I have the time to tune up and learn some more.
Second: We have a group that plays on Tuesday's, usually mornings and then we go to lunch. With season, it could be anytime within a 4 hour window due to the amount of people playing.
We can use a few girls that would like to play every week. We do a lot of laughing and a lot of talking even while playing. It's about the game but more about our relationships. We enjoy each other. We still classify ourselves as beginners. We started playing last Jan/Feb.
We live in Pinellas and a few live in Fernandina. So if, you're in our area (south of 466A) and want to play send me a PM or an email: paulascorpio@me.com
Always......the more the merrier!

It's wonderful that so many people are interested (we won't be down until Nov 1st but I will definitely play). I just have a thought... what if this group could play on one of two days a week? That would mean that people who were busy on Tuesday could still be involved on the alternate day and people could move between the two? Or they could play twice a week! Just a thought. I'm happy any day!

Dotti105,
I have been here and even though I have played crappy golf on and off for 30 years, despite a couple private lessons last year I still am not great. I tried the Ladies Day Golf but they seemed pretty serious about the score and were very good.
I'm starting a Baby Boomer Gals Club soon which would have various activities (golf, lawn bowling, thrift shopping/lunch day, movie/lunch, pool time, etc. but the group would decide, so it's not the same activity each time. If you are interested let me know.
I would be open to golf with you or a group you put together that are "beginners," that just want to have fun. I do live in Mira Mesa north of 466 and I would go at least as far as 466A..
Let me know.
