View Full Version : My Dream Up In Smoke!

I wanted to post "we are finally here!". Our house was under contract with a closing date of July 24th. The movers were called, packing had begun, and goodbyes were in process. We had arranged to stay at the home of our friends (who are up north) for three months, with our dog, while we searched for our forever Villages home.
The 4th of July we decided to have one last barbeque with my mom and my sister and her husband. Unfortunately, our house caught on fire. While there is a lot of damage, everyone is ok, including my dog. The buyers have backed out. I cant say as I blame them.
We are so distraught. Our beautiful house is a mess right now and we are staying at a hotel until the cleanup is done and power is restored. It seems our dream is up in smoke.

This is horrible and my heart goes out to you. Please know everything will work out and your house will be restored to its original condition. Your dream of living in TV is still obtainable, but it may take a while longer. The good news is no one got hurt.

So sorry to hear about your house fire. But you nor the dog was hurt and "things" can be replaced. It may not look like it now, but things like this usually happen for a reason. Hang in there.

And it is even possible that your rebuilt home will sell for more than your pre-owned home as it will have everything new!

Thank you everyone for your kind words. It is a really difficult time. I just can't believe it! I actually could close my eyes and see myself and my husband dancing in the square! I'm just heartbroken. But, we will regroup and who knows what the future will bring. I'm just putting one foot in front of the other right now.

Exactly. When our next door neighbors house caught fire, everything was replaced. The house looked better after the fire than it did before.

We had a similar experience. A pipe froze and broke while we were here. The water wiped out the kitchen 2bathrooms , laundry , and more. After we rebuilt the house at the expense of the insurance, we were able to sell the house for more than we originally expected. It was stressful and inconvenient but in the end we actually made out. Hopefully you will have the same results.

So sorry that this happened. I can just imagine the stress involved. As was mentioned before, perhaps after renovations the place will look and feel fresh and you'll get more$$ If you believe, then you'll know that this happened for the best. I know easier said, but it has happened to us many times with different circumstances. Bless you and your family.

Your day will come when you can call yourself a Villager. Putting one foot in front of the other will keep you going in the right direction. And that first sip of wine when you are finally here will taste sweeter than you ever imagined.

I am so sorry this happened to you. But glad you and the dog are OK. I hope you didn't lose your precious things that can't be replaced - like family photos etc. Good luck and God bless.

Sorry such an awful thing happened to you, but objects can be replaced. The important thing is that everyone is OK. Remember, only your short term PLAN went "up in smoke", your DREAM remains intact

I too am so very sorry this happened. We are still "waiting" for our buyer to come along....so I know how you feel. You want it so bad you can taste it...and waiting to get started is so difficult. I know they say everything happens for a reason....and I keep telling myself...in God's time. If i place it in His hands....then i have to let Him be in charge.
We have had the wettest summer i can ever remember and people do not like to go house hunting in the rain....our home has been on the market since june 16....and we have not had one single person look at it. So we keep working.....and when it is the right time....it will happen.
I hope and pray your repairs go swiftly and smoothly....i hope you sell your home with utmost speed.....and that everything goes your way. I rejoice that everyone is ok....Take a deep breath.....it will be ok....and dancing in the town square will be here before you know it! Best of luck and best wishes for you and yours.

Thank you everyone for your good wishes and kind words. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. But if this is God's way of saying this wasn't the right time, A little subtlety would have sufficed. I am someone who can take a hint!
Everyone have a dance in the square for us!

We want to add our voices to the TOTV Chorus. Thankfully everyone is fine. The house can and will be repaired. When that happens, you will get your dream back on track. You will be welcomed with open arms here in The Villages.

Dang, what rotten luck. Glad everyone is okay. My best friend in the TV and the person who introduced us to TV is from Saratoga Springs. He moved to TV about 6-7 years ago and loves it. When you get down here, PM me and I can introduce you to my friend from Saratoga Springs.
G'day,
Vinish

In some states the buyer has to complete the sale. Insurance should cover the problem and you could move.

"If you do not change directions, you will end up where you were headed in the first place". I'm not sure who said that but he was likely talking about perseverence. Just a "bump in the road" so hang in there.
