53186Great news! The long awaited opening of Darryl's Diner in the Pinellas Plaza is a reality. I've eaten breakfast and lunch there this week and both were very good - including the splurge of homemade Red Velvet cake. Big slice for $3.00. It is so refreshing to have something different and economically priced to choose from. Their hours are 6am till 3pm daily and you can get breakfast or lunch during these hours. I ran into the owner, Darryl, there and he was very cordial. As I understand it, he is a big fan of rescue and an animal lover. There was a bowl of water outside for the doggies...
Welcome to The Villages Darryl's Diner!!:BigApplause:

Actually it has been open for well over a month. :). If you look in the restaurant threads you'll see a reference on 4/26 to Darryl's in Pinellas Plaza being open. And if I recall that was the soft opening. The official opening was around 5/11. If my math is right that qualifies as "months."

Not like a New Jersey Dinner. Small portions, Expensive for what you get.

Birddawg - Do you mean that NJ Diners have small portions and are expensive or that Darrells has small portions and are expensive?

If you had ever been to a good NY or NJ diner you'd understand Birdawgs post.
We had dinner at a NY diner last night. Nothing like it.

Worked in Bedminster NJ for 8 years, ate in lots of both NJ and NY Diners...I thought the diners in the PA Dutch Country were superior (where home was) and I suspect the people that live in Philly would take issue as well. We love and enjoy what we grew up, or lived with, and that doesn't make any one location better than another, just different. We really need to stop doing comparisons since they only apply to the people from one geographic area and this place has an international population. Frankly, the "superior" (you know, where all my stuff was better than your stuff) posts are becoming annoying.
