Oh..oh... I'm stepping into the political forum where I know absolutely NOTHING about politics :dontknow: and putting myself at risk for ridicule and worse :dontknow: I guess I don't really care.

The last time I voted was when I lived in Miami before the move out west for my Retirement Adventure. It was the presidential election....... I know I didn't vote for Bush..... but I'm sure my vote didn't count, anyway.

Remember back then? Remember the hoopla about the hanging chads, the dead-people voting, the malfunctioning of the voting machines, the recount, yadda-yadda-yadda ?

I guess I was so traumatized from that stinky mess, I gave up on voting ever since :dontknow:

Now, I live in s/Oregon - I have just registered but I dunno who to vote for ::)

Any suggestions..... without getting too complicated?

Go to the website of both candidates and read the stand on the issues. In addition, pay attention to the debates.
All the "news" channels give you is spin from one side or another and the internet is dangerous as you are not sure what is out of context, etc.

When you read the websites come back for some discussion :)

I don't know if you read the AARP magazine, but we received a copy today and in it were AARP's stance on various issues of importance to people our age, along with McCain's and Obama's positions.

The most important vote you can make is for your Congressmen and Senator. If they are an incumbent, vote for the other candidate. The ones currently in power have done nothing. They shut down and refuse to allow a vote on critical bills. Change them all and continue to change them until they vote as the people who elect them want them to.

For President, you need to read and make your own choice.

This is the best advise that one can give. We need to throw them all out of office and begin anew. They have been corrupted by their power. Thank you l2ridehd.

The first thing that President Fumar would do is ban dogs from the U.S. :yikes: I think he might be impeached.

I like the way this topic was being handled in the beginning posts! Doing intelligent research on the candidates and their platforms makes perfect sense. Knowing what is important to you, and matching it with a candidate is the only way to go.

Not sure I agree that voting out all incumbents is the way to go. I check their voting records and see how they have voted on things important to me (Iraq, education and environment) and go from there.
