O.K. Gang

We need your input again. We have cable up here in Ohio and we had Comcast hook up the only TV we have at the moment in Hadley for the minimum service until we are there for more extended time.

We are told that we can get direct TV and switch it to the other location as we go back and forth.

About how much does it cost for the necessary stations. HGTV and golf (lol) We really don't view movies much and like the news and all regular programming. I am asking you because no person of normal intelligence can understand what you get and don't get. We pay over $150 in Ohio for cable and High Def.

Could you share some information and experience?

I know this thread has been presented in some form before...sorry.

I no longer have my last bill, however, I have Directv with HBO, Showtime and Cinemax with two HD receivers and one non HD and bill is $130/month. You could drop around $15 without the movie channels. I believe they charge $5 per month for additional receivers.

Obviously you would need a dish at both locations. Taking a receiver back and forth is no big deal.

There is a high satelite tax in Florida and avoid that if you can.

I have DirecTV and when we leave to come "up north" for the summer, I just call them and tell them to turn it off. At the same time, I tell them when to re-activate the service for when we plan to return. There's no charge at all, no required return of equipment, none of the nonsense that Comcast requires.

I do use Comcast for my cable modem. In my case, I own my own modem. But for them I have to call and put the account on "vacation". There's a monthly charge even though there's non one there to use the cable modem, but I can't remember how much it is.

We're 9-1/2 months TV, 2-1/2 months up north.

Our Direct TV bill in NJ is around $80. We have no movie channels, HD receiver & Recorder, and two other receivers.
