There is the Shuttleliner that chrges $29 each way and picks up and drops off at the Sleep In Hotel at Rt 30 and Florida Turpike. Haven't used it, but hubby will in a couple of weeks. Don't know anything more about it except the phone number 352-237-9900. www.shuttleliner.com

Also if you look in the daily sun classified section, there are people who advertise in the back section that they make airport runs. Not sure how much they are.

You can pick up a car from Budget in Leesburg on a 12 or 24 hour rental and drop it off at Orlando Airport for around $24 +gas used. Same applies on the way back in. You do however need a ride down to pick up the car.

I assume you know about the tram or bus service that leaves from both squares hourly (?)provided by The Villages. I think it charges $40 one way.

Use Enterprise in LSL for a one-way rental - about $40.

Beware of Shuttleliner! Had a passenger tonight coming into Orlando had a reservation on shuttleliner, van was late and then arrived full. Driver wanted to put 9 passengers into an 8 passenger van and also he reeked of alcohol. My passenger refused to get on the van. Needless to say I had to immediately drive to the airport to pick them up myself. So much for the bargin service. >:(

My husband and I used Jack's Limo Service yesterday - 352-406-1851

Very good driver - safe and courteous - $85

Far better than the Villages bus service - see my separate post on this scam!

I used Florida Jitney last week and couldn't be more pleased. $34, comfortable, complimentary snack and water, can have delivery right to your door for $5-10 extra depending on distance, service into late night. They will be offering a local taxi service soon also.

:agree: Yes, I've recently heard about the Jitney and it sounds like a great service. I will recommend it to friends and family next time they come to visit.

Go to Virginia trace web site, "Good Services" and scroll down to transportation. Several airport shuttles and lemo's I have used Jim Walsh and Cliff something, both were good. On time, clean cars, and delivered me to my door. And for two people, same cost as any of the bus services.

I heard recently that the Florida Jitney was no longer in service. Has anyone more info on this? Is it true?

Just called the Jitney's number. There is a recording stating that due to the illness of the owner, all services have been temporarily suspended. They are anticipating resuming service, but have no date at this time.

Anybody who is thinking about using one of the private drivers to and from the airport, please remember the issue of Insurance. If they are operating a livery service and are not insured, you'll have huge trouble if there is an accident. Would you ride with your neighbor to the grocery store if they had no insurance to cover you? Now, would you ride to Orlando airport with a driver if he had no insurance to cover a "car for hire." Always ask before you ride with them. Their regular car insurance isn't enough. They need "livery" insurance.

TH - I was thinking this same thing yesterday when I was talking with my wife about possible 'side' jobs she could do in TV. Beside livery insurance do you also need a livery license in Florida? I know here in MA that it is difficult to obtain and then charge enough to cover the livery insurance and still make a profit. Just wondering if anyone knows these answers or where to check the Florida law.

Looking for a reasonable limo or cab service to and from the airport.

We have done a lot of investigation on this subject. We would love to find a reasonable limo or cab service to/from the airport as we have many visitors.

I know many people choose to rent a car, however for residents who don't drive, there aren't many options.

The Florida Jitney was wonderful while it lasted, but has suspended service.

The Villages Shuttle offers dependable service, but restricted hours. (They actually reduced their rate a bit).

Airport pick-up by limo seems to be $85 whether it is one person or two.
Gas prices decreased, but the rates stay the same.

If anyone knows of a less expensive LIMO option, please post it here. It would be much appreciated.

I have been very pleased with TV shuttle. Clean, comfortable, $40 one way but for me, it's worth the convenience. You meet the bus at either square and they drop off at either square also. And, the bus departs TV every few hours, very convenient and has always worked well for me. I'd rather go with the sure thing as long as I'm happy with it. Just my 2 cents.

The Villages shuttle reduced prices and increased service. They added a late evening pick up which is a safety net for late flights or coming in from the west coast. Price for residents is $35. At Christmas the were doing a round trip for $65. They are reliable and I hope the residents support the service because it appears that other services come and go.

Florida Jitney has flown the coop. It left town not paying their employees thousands of dollars in back salaries and giving them no notice that he was closing the doors. Virginia Trace should remove that name from their listing as a "Good" company. Most of the employees were villages residence. We do need another multi-person van (carrier) in town that can go out early in the morning and will return rather late. We take 6 a.m. flights and need to be there by 4:30. Any takers wanting to start a new business? Better yet, have one of your children start a Jitney business down here. They can move in over at Bison Ridge and they get to use all the pools, golf courses, rec. centers, tennis courts that your ammenties pay for (FREE) because you live here. In area direct blood line relatives can use all the ammenities 365 days a year. Can't beat that. This is the time to do it.:jester:

boobear51751 is indeed correct concerning Florida Jitney. They aplit in a real bad way - not only spiffing employees but customers who had made reservations as well. Both offices of Seniors Vs Crime received complaints about this company. There is probably nothing to be done as they are GONE!

Chuckinca, check out a thread on this site titled "AAC Backtracking On Guest ID Changes" because 365 is still the correct answer for in-area guests. The south side (the Developed-controlled SLCDD) vetoed the changes the AAC proposed to limit in-area guests to 30 days of our pools and other amenities per year.

Quoting Bigfox 7-01-09 post in the Petition thread:

"The abuse of the guest pass situation is coming from the fact that if 4 residents per household can prove residency they can get IDs. There are 11 forms of ID that are available and only 3 of the 11 are required to get an ID. The new policy about not allowing guests that live in the tri-county area is not affected by the above. That is where the abuse is still coming from. Not giving a single person household an extra pass for a girl friend or boy friend."

I have no complaints about Yellow Cab. $35 each way per person.

I agree that using the shuttle bus operated by The Villages is about the best idea - except if your plane arrives after 9 pm.

Cost for Village residents is $35.

Departs from Lake Sumter Landing and Spanish Springs.

Personally, I would have doubts about a private driver just doing it for extra cash. There is the insurance issue and what do you know about their driving record?

Use a reliable company like The Villages shuttle - or a licensed company - and be careful of just the guy doing it for extra cash.

I use a gentleman who lives in TV. He drives you to the airport in your car, returns your vehicle to your garage, then picks you up at the airport. If you have Sun Pass the charge is $40.00 each way per car load. If your plane is delayed, he waits. I always give him more if he waits.

Just this morning I saw the Village Airport Shuttle bus pick someone up accross the way in Pennecamp...she had two pieces of luggage so I know she was going to the airport. Are they now doing door-to-door service?

We've had good success using The Village Airport Van (people also call it the Yellowcab Service). $35.00 per person per trip. The Village Airport Van, 352-241-2000 makes 20+ trips daily to Orlando International .... and operates at all hours. It will pick you up or drop you off at your house.

Not to be confused with The Villages Airport Shuttle. It is owned by The Villages, runs limited hours, and pick up/drop off is at LSL or Spanish Springs.

Read not too long ago in the daily sun that The Villages Airport Shuttle was sold and is no longer operated by the villages.
