HELP - Need Ideas For Social Group Activities

We have formed a new social group in our neighborhood and meet monthly for some kind of a social gathering and activity. We are looking for ideas to keep the meetings fun and interesting to our group.

What kind of things have you been to or heard of that other groups have tried? What was your favorite event or activity? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Our group is less than 2 years old and meet monthly for 3 hours in a rec center.

We had guest speakers and that was good. Someone spoke on lightning, landscaping, Citizens Against Crime or something like that, a charity for children and a couple more I can't remember.

We were bringing food for a big meal but lately we have been bringing apps, snacks and desserts and I think that's better.

We played games, Mexican Train and Bunko. That was fun. I don't think it was the game itself that was enthralling but it was more the joking around by playing the game.

We are having an anaerobic triathlon in the fall of bean bag, bocce and shuffleboard.

A Christmas and Thanksgiving party too---we gathered toys and donated to Toys for Tots.

I think it's probably best to keep it simple. If you get a lot of volunteers who want to run events you can make it your meetings far more grand and elaborate.
