]Good morning:
I did searches on the "search" buttom and could not find recommendations on getting rid of pet odors in furniture.
I have an older friend in Ameilia who has 2 small dogs and she asked me to search in Talk of the Villages for recommendations on getting rid or minimizing pet odor on her couches.
Any advice/recommendations would be very appreciated. :)
Thank you. [/B]

I think you should tell her to throw it out
Masking the smell with Fabreze is like taking a French bath.

What is a French bath?
I agree with Gracie. Only option is to throw it out and retrain the pets before the new one arrives. Or cover the new couch.

Not sure why your words printed so huge!!! I would call Heaven's Best Carpet Cleaners. To me they are the best. They did our carpet and it dried very quickly and has stayed clean. (352) 342-2224 Haven't had them do furniture yet but hope they do.

Is this a couch with any value. If so I would call a commercial cleaning service in and let them clean and neutrlize the urine smell. If you don't neutralize it the dogs will continue to use the couch. If it is just a vody odor that would be much simpler to get rid of but again hacing someone use a odor neutrlizer is best.

Try Zorbex (maybe Zorb-x) available at Lowes. If that doesn't work then throw away the couch

Try not allowing Pets on the living room couch! Might work!

Rumor has it.....there's going to be a new pet product booth opening at the Marion Market in September. Maybe they could address your pet odor issue with a proven product, it's worth a try. New couches are quite costly, we just purchased one last week. I drape a pet-friendly cover over it until company comes around.

From your avatar, it looks like you have the right preventative idea, Bitsee.:coolsmiley:

I've heard that charcoal helps but never had reason to use try it.
I'd throw the couch out if it didn't and then take a good look at the pet and where to isolate him until he is trained to keep off the furniture but perhaps it was an isolated event and he couldn't help it.

I would suggest using an ozone generator in the room for a few hours. During that time pets and people should not be in the house. It is safe to return to the house 80 minutes after the generator has stopped running. Ozone breaks down odors and other contaminates, and kills mold, mildew, and bacteria.

Fabreze has a product designed to remove odors from fabric. There is also a product called Pets & Kids at Walmart. Haven't had a problem with Harry but I believe in being prepared.

I don't know how bad this person's couch is....but what we use to kill all type of smells from cooking, perfume, bathroom, dog smells, etc. is ZorbX, which you can get at Lowes. I think someone else mentioned this. Hospitals use this. Love this product. You may have treat the area more than once. I have asthma and most anything that has a smell bothers me. I rate this a miracle product.

I have used Heavens Best for carpet cleaning and they are very good.
I will suggest that to my friend.
My friend is on a tight budget and buying new furniture right now is not an option, unfortunately.

When I bought a new cover for my futon, my dog no longer got up on it since it was different. That may be a good time to retrain if you get another.

Heaven's Best cleaned all of our furniture last year. They did an amazing job at a very reasonable price. I definitely would give them a call.
