I have a Midland weather alert radio next to a window in the bedroom. It has a good battery for backup and it stays plugged into the wall socket.

I have noticed the radio in automatic test operation on Wednesdays when NOAA sends out the test signals.

However, even with all these strong thunderstorms we have had this summer, it has only given the audible warning one time. I have it set only for Sumter County since I don't want to hear alerts from Lake or Marion counties.

Does anyone else have these radios and have received more warnings than me? I figure that the thunderstorms are just not of emergency warning level.

I only have mine set for Sumter county and this year it hasn't gone off but a couple of times. There were more warnings in lake and Marion counties than Sumter. So your weather station is working ok.

I think you are right. As a native Floridian, my opinion is that we have had one storm that had a bit more wind than I would normally expect.
But I do not know about the radios.

I also have one and in the beginning it would go off just before a storm would hit and during. Last few weeks we had some serious thunderstorms come thru and it did not go off once. Also was wondering if there is something wrong with it.

Where do you get this type of radio and how do you get them set for Sumter?

I believe (non Floridian native) that the storms was saw recently were not in the severe category, therefore no warning. I have one of these, and have had maybe 2 warnings this year. I also have an app on my phone with similar results.
Hope this helps.
PS I have noticed if the alarm sounds, batten down the hatches.....

We have used one for quite awhile and carry it with us when we travel in our RV. Because we are on the move I don't program for each area we are in and just receive all the alerts within radio range. So far this summer we have had some alerts for Ocala and Tampa Bay but none for Sumter as best I recall.
If you get the test alerts your radio should be OK.

I use Code Red. You get weather and other alerts like missing seniors or children etc.

You can buy one at WalMart for about $30. Take the radio to any Villages fire department (with the backup battery) and they will program it for you in a couple of minutes.

Just have it programmed for Sumter County or you will get alerts for places many miles away.
