I found a note on the front door an hour ago saying the gas co. had changed out our meter.
And I have to call a number to get my service restored. Probably closed now til the AM.
Of course, I found this AFTER my oven wasn't working right, my clothes weren't drying, etc.
I still have some hot water, but guess I better shower tonight instead of in the morning.
What's up with a meter changeout? It's only 4 yrs. old.
Anyone else had this happen???

What village do you live in? I'm here almost 4 years. Hope they let me know if they are going to change the meter.

Well, Mint, that's what happens when you don't pay your gas bill for six months.
I'm kidding, I'm kidding! :a20:

All of the gas meters will be changed over to the new meter system that allows the utility to read your usage from their office instead of sending people around to read them.........Its called progress.....

Lovely.... As it was, I got a note from the utility company that we needed to do some pruning as they couldn't read our meter, yet we received a bill. When I called to ask how to deal with this issue, they explained that they usually read the meters from a block away, doing a whole neighborhood at one clip, but because of shrubbery, they actually had to come close to our house to read it. I have no reason not to take them at their word, but does this make sense?...

yeah, now they read from afar, unlike the old days when the meters were indoors and we could have such urban myths as:
Consider the modern classic about the woman in Ohio (or was it Oregon? or Maine?) who is doing the laundry in her basement when she impulsively decides to remove her soiled dress and add it to the load. Her hair is in rollers and the pipes overhead are leaking. She spots her son's football helmet and dons it. There she stands, naked except for the helmet, when she hears a cough. The woman turns to face the meter reader. Says he, as he heads for the door: "I hope your team wins, lady."

I'm in Lynnhaven. We did get some kind of a notice quite a while ago, that they would change it out for free, to just send in the postcard. But we never sent it in.
I usually come and go thru the garage, so I didn't see the notice stuck in the door that they'd changed it til a neighbor came over.
I was going to call a repairman for the stove that wasn't working.
So I'm happy I found the notice before I had to pay for a service call FOR NOTHING.
Geez,,, I called the # to restore service,
but have to call back again this morning after they open.

Earlier in the year they sent us a notice that they were going to do it and asked us to call and set an appointment time. We did - and they did. No problems or inconvenience.

Donna,
I called to get my service restored and they said sometime today between 9 and 5.
And someone has to be here to let them in to re-lite the pilot lite.
They couldn't give me ANY kind of a time frame of when they will be here,
so I guess I'm stuck at home til they come. :cus:
If I had your key, I could have them re-lite your pilot lite too.
Would you want Beverly to give it to me so you don't have to waste a day waiting for them when you get here?
