McCain says we should listen to the troops on the ground..................
The Houston Chronicle reports that antiwar Republican Congressman Ron Paul is getting more campaign contributions from members of the US military than any other candidate for the White House.
Paul, who voted against the Iraq war and advocates a complete and immediate withdrawal of all US troops, received $63,440 in donations from current military employees and retired military personnel.
Barak Obama was second with $53,968.
Texas A&M political science professor George C. Edwards, who was a guest professor at West Point for three years, told the Chronicle "an awful lot of people in the military just think this war has been a disaster for the Army."
"They may be quite upset and this is a way they can do something about it," he said.

I need to update this!
according to a jed report clip from CNN, active duty troops fighting in iraq have donated over $60,000 to the Obama campaign as opposed to McCain's $10,000 and $45,000 to Ron Paul. judging from the evidence so far, it appears that troops serving in Iraq are tired of the war and want to come home as soon as possible. As troop terms keep getting extended, more and more are beging to question the war. assumming the 6-1 ratio applies to all active combat forces, that means of the 177,000 troops stationed in Iraq, only 16% support the war.

And if previous wars could submit a vote or be so unlucky to have the 24/7 coverage of today what makes anybody think there was ever a popular war with the troops?
Right, wrong or classify as you may like....being in the service is not a democracy.
One is trained to do what needs to be done or ordered to do.....no questions asked.
What the information presented above fails to present (typical media type report presenting only the piece they want known)....no where does it state what percent of the total ANY of those dollars represent. Most likely it is 20% or less for the total amount (and no doubt significantly less than 20%). And for anybody to extrapolate those numbers into a representation of how the troops feel or think is preposterous, unadulterated BULL FECES!!!!!!
It is a slap in the face to the majority of the troops (of any and all branches of the service) who are proudly serving their country without a whimper or whining.
How incredibly unpatriotic and demeaning!!!! :edit: :barf: :realmad:

To continue to update with facts not BS..........
CEOs are donating ten times as much for McCain than Obama.
US troops stationed overseas are donating six times as much for Obama than McCain.
The arithmetic is simple. The reality it reveals is stark.
Business leaders are not served well by those who only tell them what they want to hear. CNBC and the Wall Street Journal have failed them.
US military personnel, on the other hand, have no choice but to see what is unfolding before their eyes and reverberating in their ears. They know the "success of the surge" is partly an illusion and partly an irrelevancy.
Tell your friends and colleagues.
Because the US mainstream news media certainly will not provide this context, or ask the hard questions that arise from it.
Here is the documentation:
The Hill reports that the CEOs of the 100 biggest Fortune 500 corporations have given approximately 10 times as much to John McCain as they have to Barack Obama. McCain has received $208,200 from these chief executive officers; meanwhile, Obama has taken in $20,400 from the same group of people.
According to an analysis of campaign contributions by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, Democrat Barack Obama has received nearly six times as much money from troops deployed overseas at the time of their contributions than has Republican John McCain, and the fiercely anti-war Ron Paul, though he suspended his campaign for the Republican nomination months ago, has received more than four times McCain's haul.

TOTAL...TOTAL number of contributions from military...TOTAL NUMBER
Obama 44
McCain 32
Paul 23
This is perhaps why the media does not cover it.

NOTE TO JUNGLE JIM.....
Your source, the Houston Chronicle, listed the exact information you gave on here...thanks
HOWEVER, THE ARTICLE YOU ARE QUOTING FROM IS DATED OCTOBER 18, 2007 !!!!!!!
Folks, do your own research...there are folks who will just throw things out there and hope you dont check it out.
The info I posted on number of contributions is from ABC/USA TODAY from today and the dollar figures are
OBAMA 27,000
PAUL 19,300
MCCAIN 18,500
How can anyone purposely try to mislead folks is beyond me !!!!

notwithstanding....
The original post from JUNGLEJIM is almost ONE YEAR OLD !!!

Am not sure exactly what this information is trying to be shown by the data.
As I add the numbers, the following information regarding contributions to Presidential campaigns is shown:
1. Sen. Obama + the DNC Services Corp = approx $ 352.5 mil
2. Sen. McCain + RNC = approx $516.5 mil
3. The other Democratic candidate = approx $ 167.0 mil
4. The other Republican candidates = approx $ 410.0 mil
A. Total Democratic contributions = approx $ 519.5 mil
B. Total Republican contributions = approx $ 926.5 mil
How do you interpret this?

STEVEZ.....my only point was that JUNGLEJIM had distorted the facts just a bit and your post simply validates that.

If that feeling is based on military-member campaign contributions, the numbers don't validate it.
