For those that are experienced in driving to NY, what is the best way to get to I95 going north.

Having trouble getting a quick flight and was thinking of driving to NY.

Done it many times, several ways. In the end, 75 to 10E to 95N is usually the most painless. I hate all the local stretches of 301 getting up to 10E. Might be slightly shorter in miles, but worse in every other way. Good luck!!

I have tried all the routes from TV to I-95, and the quickest (even with all the small towns you have to go through)

I-75 to Exit 358 to
301 to
I-10 ....when you get to I-10, do not get in line to turn left onto the on ramp...go under the interstate and do a U turn so you are turning right for the on ramp....there is usually a long line turning left due to a truck stop just before the interstate.

I-10 to
I-295 to
I-95

Autotrain from Sanford To Virginia. Drive the rest of the way.

Actually probably the easiest and less stressful of all the ways suggested so far. Will rest you up for the last, maddening segment from DC to NY!! :)

Yeah, I hear you, and it might seem like a big difference, but timewise....not so much. I've gotten stuck in local traffic, or with construction, in those little local towns more than a few times. Plus, those little local towns tend to have little local PD's who love to ticket out-of-state plates every time you change speed limits, which is constant!! I prefer the high-speed flow of traffic on cruise control via 75 & 10 any day, even given the miles difference. In the end though, those, plus the Auto Train, are really the only choices. Not even a trip worth doing on Mapquest! lol

Also, always make sure you travel thru DC and NYC during off off peak rush hours.

Be sure to download the free navigation app called Waze. Gives real time updates such as hazards, police location, traffic jams, etc. also shows turn by turn directions and gives you alternate routes. Much better than google maps. Just used it driving to DC earlier this month.

Have tried all the route that you can imagine over the past 6 years. The best IMO

County RT 42 from North end of TV 18.2mi to Fl 19 north for 15.5 mi to Fl 40 east 33 mi to 95.

very little traffic , virtually no towns to pass through, much of the route is through the Ocala and other forests. My guess is that once you take this route you will not want the hassle of the various other routes. Roads are good quality. I have taken this route at least 20 times to Maryland and back

I will be trying a new route tomorrow. My wife has a doctor's appointment in Gainesville and we will leave G'ville on SR 24 and connect with 301 at Waldo.

These directions are the best and quickest route to I-95. I can't even imagine going west to I-75 then north, then back east on I-10. Once you get on 42, it will only take a little over an hour to get to 95.

There ARE NO off peak hours in Northern VA, DC, or NYC. Been stuck even at 1 AM

Around 4 AM is the best time to go around the DC area. Most night construction work is being taken down and morning rush is just beginning. I lived in the DC area all my life before moving to The Villages. We would hit the road between 3 and 4 AM. Normal travel time point to point 13 1/2 hours. Good luck.

Hate to pop anyone's balloon with the facts, but:

Going this way to Yulee,FL (N of Jacksonville just off I-95)---181 miles
Taking I-75 to I-10 (yuk)--------------------------------------- 206 miles
Take 301, cross I-10, R on FL200 to I-95----------------------148 miles

So the shortest way to a common location on 95 N, by far is 301
The few towns you hit on 301 are minimal, and I agree that jumping on 75 just N of Ocala saves a few minutes, especially if you are headed to the southern end of TV

Think again about that drive! Just drove NJ to NC wednesday - good trip south, but traffic north thru virginia and maryland - god awful!!! Making our return trip on saturday hoping that construction projects are on hold! Normal wknd traffic is bad enough! Would pay any price to fly and avoid it all!

When you go up I-05, get off at last exit to 301 N, exit just past King's Dominion. Follow 301 up go thru Harbor tunnel. (the old one) I-895. North you will be merged into I-95. Tunnel used to be bad but now Fort McHenery Tunnel takes all the traffic. Remember in Crofton drive straight ahead on MD3, 301 takes you to the Eastern Shore.

Drove this route all the time when I lived in Southern Maryland.

No DC traffic avoid the Beltway,

Good route, but make it better.............after turning north on 19 in Altoona look for 445A and take it to 40. It will cut off 2 sides of a triangle and save you several miles. I go this way at least once a month going to eat in Astor.

Im not understanding why you quoted my post. I fail to see who's balloon you are popping. The OP asked the best route to I 95. I agreed with a poster about the 42 to 19 to 40 route. The fact is going this route will put you on I 95 in a little over an hour from the northern part of The Villages. That was the question.

You are right. That little cutoff saves 10 minutes, maybe a little more.

DO NOT speed on 301 between Ocala and I10. Lots of speed traps so be sure to follow the signs.

Sorry, my bad. Hit quote post on yours instead of what you were responding to. I guess it is my lack of understanding---is the goal to head up north as quickly as possible or just to get ANYWHERE on I-95?

I have driven this route more times then I can count. I have tried them all several times. 75 to 10, 301 to 10, through Ocala National Forest to 95, Auto train, and the best way is to fly. Second best, fastest, and even with all it's faults is 301 to 10 to 295 to 95. I used to use 44 to 75 to exit 358 and if you live in the Southern part of the Villages would go that way still. But from the Northern part, 301 straight thru Ocala is faster. Especially if your leaving early AM. I try to be on the road by 4:00 AM. I can consistently be at the Florida Georgia border on 95 in 2 hours and 30 minutes. Even staying exactly on the speed limit between here and I 10.

The Autotrain does cool off at night, take your own pillows and blankets.

As for the DC and Baltimore and Phila areas, in the area of Lorton Virgina, I head North and West toward Frederick and then Harrisburg PA (route 15), once in Harrisburg, 78 going east, then you can choose the rest of your route north. This route is a little longer, but completely avoids the 95 corridor inn the DC area.
Hope this helps.
Use Goolge maps (or similar) to get specific route details.
