Has anyone used a company to transport their car in their move to TV? I'd like to get company names or suggestions if possible. Thanks, Kath

We have companies that will transport your car on a truck. And we also have companies with people who will drive your car for you (with passengers on board if wanted). But I'm sure you're looking for companies located in California and not in Canada!!

Kath..I have a friend who ships her car south from Massachusetts every winter via truck. I am pretty sure it is a nationwide company. I will ask her and get back to you.

Thanks Bare and Beady, I found an old link that gave some information and phone numbers and we're looking into them now.
Beady, would appreciate it if you could get the number from your friend.
Bare, yes, I would like a CA based company would be best, but thanks anyway for the quick response.

Kath,
It will probably be very expensive, do you feel its worth transporting? How in love with your car are you?
Mabe selling and buying when you get to TV is the answer. Just my unwanted humble opinion. LOL

I havei no first hand experience ( other than inquiring about driving a car between DC and Orlando) but if you want someone to "drive" your car across country for you....this would not be via truck..check out http://www.autodriveaway.com . Here is the LA site information...looks like they will get you to Las Vegas
LOS ANGELES E-MAIL ADDRESS: drivers@autodriveawayla.com
At this time we do not offer our driveaway service directly from Las
Vegas, however it can be done with a personal visit to the Los Angeles
office and we will pay your transportation to Las Vegas.
LOS ANGELES PHONE NUMBER ...............(323)666-6100 or (800)522-2288

Nonie, its a great little car with very little mileage on it, and in LA that is a rarity. So I think I'll transport it and give it to my brother, he'll appreciate that, and I'll let HIM wash it!!!
Caroline, thanks I'll try those numbers. Since I'm leaving LA on Friday, its awfully hard to organize this in such short time, so I'll try anything and everything. Thanks for all the information.

I shipped a car from Norcal to TV two years ago. I got a half dozen quotes from auto transport brokers from a website like this:
http://www.123movers.com/auto_transport/s-auto_ship/default.html
and they picked up the car six hours later and it was in TV in 5 days. But, you have to have it delivered to someone in TV who you send a money order to give the driver to cover the shipment.

I got around 6 quotes in a few hours and a few phone calls - made deal over the phone, driver called from Bakersfield and was in the Bay Area in four hours picking up the car.

Two years ago I paid a tad under a K. If you can hook up directly with a driver it is around $800.

I went through autotransports to ship my Miata. It was around $600 from the Bay Area. They picked up the day I wanted them to, arrived exactly as promised. I had a friend meet them at the parking lot of their choice, they unloaded and drove my baby home. It was so good to see her waiting for me when I got here. Worked out great.
< . . . wondering why KathieI wants to send her car to Canada . the Canadians don't deserve that kind of torment. . . . >

Thank you everyone (except Tony!). Great information. The car is being picked up on Thursday afternoon and will be shipped to Florida. I was shocked at the cost, some of the boxes I've been sending are $150 each via UPS, and yet a car only costs $900??? I don't get it. But anyway, I'm happy, that's one less thing I have to worry about.
Thanks for all your help. I used Chuckinca's link and wound up with a company called Bluestar Auto Movers in Ft. Lauderdale. They are excellent, so far anyway.

so, kathie.....the car is being shipped to TV?
How are you shipping yourself and 3 puking Schnauzers? Have your transport plans changed? Y'all coming by plane now?

One thing about shipping a car. Unless it is shipped in an enclosed vehicle (at at least $1K more), it must go empty. No boxes, no bags and the like. If an inspector randomly checks your car and sees boxes, etc., it will be offloaded and left at the inspection site for that state. This is a federal transportation law, not up to the trucker.

Heck no, still driving but renting a small suv, (considering Ms. Fay, I'm glad I decided to drive) but did you think I was gonna have them puking in MY car?? No way!
kidding... my car is too small to drive cross country so thought a small suv will be good, more reliable (I hope), and the doggies will be comfortable in the back seat, on top of quilts, pillows, doggie beds, and their toys!! God forbid, they are put out!! Wish us luck!!

Yes, Red is right, they ask that nothing be in the car, which is hard for me cause I still have office stuff loaded in the trunk, but its a good time to clean out the junk.
These auto moving companies are so professional in giving you information and service, that I wish our nationwide utility companies were as good. So far, I'm very happy... Getting things done to get out of L.A. on Friday. See ya in TV around Aug. 28 or 29, we hope!!

WOW... this topic has been extremely helpful to me. My daughter left her new RAV4 at my house in Oregon and she might want it shipped to Miami, if she stays there, but we didn't know of any reliable auto transporters.
THANKS Kathi, for the topic ..... THANKS chuckinca for that recommendation. There were 10 companies in my town to choose from !
Just another example of how TOTV is such a great informative site

Your most welcome - you're right, that's what TOTV is best at, getting out the info from people who have been there and done that.
