Our neighbor's palm is in trouble. They are in Maine still and asked us for a recommendation of someone to call. We don't have any palms. Can anyone recommend a palm specialist?

Don't know a specialist but I did see on Orlando TV yesterday about a palm tree disease throughout central Florida that is attacking Queen and Washingtonian Palms; there is no cure for it once it hits and it only takes about a month to kill the tree. Symptoms are the fronds are turning brown but they still stay up like they're healthy or half of the frond turns yellow and the other half is green.

Thanks, Callaway girl and goldsekur. I sent the recommendation on to my neighbor. Anybody else know of a tree specialist around these parts?

You may want to contact an arborist. I saw an article this morning on the other Village on line news that said Lady Lake has been having problems with unqualified tree surgeons and are taking steps to stop them. Be careful letting someone take a saw to the tree. We have all seen hack jobs in the Villages.

I wanted to find an arborist last spring so I called the extension office. They do not recommend anyone specifically but told me where to look online. -- can't remember the name of the site.

I am pretty sure my search found Tree Frog then (mentioned above by goldseekur) as the only arborist on the list for this area. But at that time, I got a message that said they were booked a few months out. But we would have been gone by June so I decided to forget about it for a while. (I wanted advice on our Queen Palms -- which are an aggravation but look good.)

Please let us know if you talk to Tree Frog or if there is another certified arborist. I still am interested.

Take a picture of the palm with your phone or tablet and take to government annex (corner of 466 and Morse) on Mondays between 9 am and 3 pm. Master Gardeners are there to diagnose problems and will give information. All the rain we have had has caused quite a few problems with a number of plants; palms included. ALthough, if they had it trimmed before they left and the saw wasn't sterilized, that could have started the problems.

Thank you for the suggestions. The owners are in Maine and won't be back till October. But I'm sending these along to them.
