Hi. My wife and I are visiting friends at the Villages in early September to check out the lifestyle and real estate. Any "must do's"? Gareth

First of all, welcome to The Villages for your Lifestyle experience Gareth! I agree with Callaway Guy in that it can get overwhelming. Concentrate on the things that you like and be open to how much is available to residents here. My wife and I followed a very similar path as you. It may seem to be "too good to be true"... but believe me, it is even better than advertised!
ENJOY!!!!

Take the trolley tour out of Lake Sumter Landing. I'm not a "tour" guy at all but we took it when we visited and it was very informative and well worth the time. If you can rent a golf cart, get a map, and just explore. We really enjoyed getting the morning paper, driving around, and checking out some open houses.
Did I mention get a map? :icon_wink:

If you do rent a golf cart here's where we rented ours. They were great. I think they have a 3 day minimum. If you're staying in a hotel make sure the hotel is golf cart accessible.

All good advise. We have visited 4 times and have sold home and will be moving mid Oct. relax and have fun! One trip after golf we went around in 19th hole and tried to find someone who could tell us something negative...nope could not find anyone who wasn't very happy with their decision.
See you down there !

If you are coming down on the "Lifestyle preview" there is no need to rent a golf cart. One will come with the rental unit supplied by the villages.
Here are 60 threads asking the same thing, plenty of information https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/search.php?searchid=11119096

I got the impression from the original post that they were visiting and possibly staying with friends, not actually doing the full lifestyle preview.
I second the idea of taking the trolley tour out of the Lake Sumter Landing sales office. My wife and I took it the first time we visited and thought it was a great overview of the place. Definitely grab a daily paper and check out a few open houses (though you might want to make sure your GPS has the latest maps as it is SO easy to get lost in The Villages at first!). Check out the retail, dining and entertainment in the area as well as you'll availing yourself of it if you end up living here.
Be prepared to be somewhat overwhelmed. The Villages is bigger than the island of Manhattan and has more of everything you could possibly want out of an active retirement community than anybody else anywhere. Be prepared to be underwhelmed by other retirement communities elsewhere if you visit them afterwards.
The Villages isn't for everyone. If you want to have a quiet, mellow, peaceful, uneventful retirement, this probably isn't the place to go. But if you like the idea of having tons of opportunities for fun, socializing, learning and more fun, it may just be right for you. My wife and I are convinced it's right for us, have bought a house and are counting down the days until we can retire and move there and start the fun!

You won't be able to believe it....and like most will wonder..."what's the catch"? No catch...just the most wonderful place and incredible experiences await you. You will be overwhelmed and delighted and amazed. We are a big town full of interesting and delightful folks and with something to do every second of the day.

Get a Free Map at AAA if you are a AAA member.
It will be hot. Bring some light colored clothes and make sure they are Stay Dry (Moisture Wicking). Sun Block and hats may be helpful.

Bring at least 2 devices [camera, smartphone, video camera] and as you are shooting video narrate what you are seeing including the address. I would buy the gps app advertised here and the book about the villages.
