We received an email from Dr. Nguyen (knee replacement specialist) that as of mid August, he will NO LONGER be doing surgery at Florida Hospital Altamonte! This came as a shock to us, as this hospital was very devoted to his work, and he had an entire wing and two operating rooms for his patients. This sounds a little scary, and I am looking for any information anyone might have on the reason for this change, as my husband's surgery is scheduled for January. Thank you.

Have you called his office yet to find out what is going on? Lots of people in TV go to him.

I too am on Dr.Nguyen's surgical schedule. With him both closing The Villages office and not being affiliated with Florida Hospital Altomonte we have to wonder what is going on. Very unsettling!

He's doing the surgeries as out patient out of a surgical center in Orlando. My friend had it done a month ago. Everything worked fine.

Not everyone can go to a surgical outpatient center due to insurance it must be a hospital

So it knee replacement cannot be done as an outpatient if you have medicare.
I have seen him and have been planning to use him when the time comes, but I did read some hospital and MD outcomes results to which someone posted a link, and was very surprised that his rate of complications was quite high.
I don't have the link at my fingertips, it may have been on a thread about prostate surgery. As that has been a big concern to us of late.
Hospitals are very political, so there could be any number of reasons that he has pulled out of Altamonte Florida Hospital. When I saw him he did say he used 2 hospitals. He may have just moved everything over to the other hospital. ??

The outpatient surgery center is on Turkey Lake Rd in Orlando also. If you are on Medicare, Medicare requires an overnight stay in a hospital. I had my knee replaced in the outpatient surgery center, off the operating table at 12:15, walking at 2:15 and out the door at 3pm. My other knee will be done in late October. He also removed a lesion on my leg in April at the same outpatient center. I'm very happy with Dr. Nguyen and his nurses there are terrific.

Well, this is a little disconcerting. Go to Healthgrades > Find a Doctor | Doctor Reviews | Hospital Ratings (http://www.healthgrades.com) and look at the ratings for total knee replacement for Dr. P. Phillips Hospital!!!

Lots of red flags about Dr. Nguyen; I think I would be seeking out a new Doctor if I was due to have surgery from him. I know a great one (from personal experience) in Altamonte Springs with the Florida Hospital Group if you want to PM me.

Dr. J. Dean Cole, Florida hospital south. Fracture Care Center, is the best of the best.

I don't see it as red flags. I see it that he is condensing his locations for less travel time.

Just called Dr.Nguyen's office in response to an email. He is still in good standing with and accepts Medicare. So does Dr. Philips Hospital
Dr. Nguyen office: Amanda 407-355-3120
Dr.Philips surgery coordinator: Jami 321-842-7206. Jami gives hospital orientation talk 1st Friday of each month at Villages belvedere library 10-12.
Call for reservation.
This is such a relief since I thought I'd have to find another surgeon.
