How did a frog get into my bathroom

This morning when I went into the bathroom there was a light green frog in the sink. Our house is super tight and we have an exterminator spray quarterly, so I don't know how it got in. Do you suppose it came up through the toilet? This one really has me baffled. It was a real jumper, took a long time to catch, but I did catch it and took it across the street and turned it loose.

Probably just a tree frog that jumped onto you when you entered the house, very common.

They can come in when you open the garage door. Then get into the house when you open the inside door to the garage. From there they can get any where in the house.

I worry about the toilet and rodents more than frogs. My dog loves to chase the lizards that come inside.

I did not open the link because I had one in a former life. My lot was full of citrus trees. I called my dad who decided if it could come up it could go down, and he was right. We stood by as he flushed it over and over. And over again. That was probably 1979. I haven't had a seat since without looking first.

The frogs enter the toilet from the vent pipe on the roof. If there are trees above your house or near it, the frogs jump on the roof, realize the surface is hot and hop over to the pipe to escape the heat. Solution, put screening on the vent pipes.

I had this discussion, just a few days ago, with a friend in Orlando. She lifted the toilet lid in the morning and there was a frog. She said it wasn't the first time. I would bet your frog jumped from toilet to sink.

I would tell you about the snake but that I'll save for another time, however that wasn't in the toilet. Nope, not a joke.

Ahh! Snake came out of our master bath a few years ago. I don't know how he got in there but wish I had talked to him for an answer before he died a short time later. True story.

A neighbor told my wife about a frog in her and husband's bed just a couple nights ago. I bet that caused so small stir!

I often find the sewer clean out cap on the side or front of the house broken during a typical warranty inspection. Landscapers often break these and never tell the homeowner. Snakes and frogs can then go down the pipe and come up into the toilet. It happens quite often.

If you find a critter in your toilet, sink or shower drain check your sewer clean out. A new cap can be bought at Ace or any big box store for around $3 or $4 dollars. They just screw on.

I personally prefer the type with a slot in it instead of the large square nut. It does not stick up as high so the landscapers have less chance of hitting it again. It is also a good idea to clamp some hardware cloth around those roof vent pipes if you really want to minimize this occurring. That being said, I think this happens more from a broken sewer clean out....but it IS another reason to keep trees away from your roof....especially those palm trees landscapers plant WAY too close to the house, but that is a subject all in itself.
