Watch this short video on roundabouts.
It explains all you need to know to successfully navigate a roundabout.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wIoR7fpPJM
and remember
1. When entering, yield to ALL traffic inside the circle, that means BOTH lanes.
2. Never stop when inside of a traffic circle.
3. NEVER, NEVER change lanes within a traffic circle.
1/4 around, enter right, exit right
1/2 around, enter from either lane, and remain in that lane when exiting.
3/4 around, enter from left (inside) lane and exit from left (inside) lane.
ENTERING TRAFFIC MUST YIELD TO ALL LANES
4. Try to stagger your car with other traffic, so that you will be visible to all traffic.
5. Signal when exiting.

One of the problems in The Village is that the "Resident Gate" is usually in the outside lane encouraging drivers on the inside lane to change lanes to enter through the resident gate. I realize that drivers have the option to enter either gate but not every one will be knowledgeable.

Question: Since the Sumter Sheriff's office official position is if there is an accident at a TV RB, the car in the outside lane will be ticketed, wouldn't it make sense to always use the inside lane to avoid being found at fault in the event of an accident?

That is one of the better, more understandable presentations. The graphics are well done and self explanatory.
It slao highlights how many correct and incorrect opportunities exist in negotiating traffic circles.
There are not many of us that woud pass a test on all aspects covered.....but it is an excellent source of information for those new to traffic circle use.
Pass it on!

As I see it, this video does not present the exact situation found in the Villages as most if not all of the roundabouts in TV are two lane roundabouts which are a tad more complex. The above video shows a one lane roundabout in action which is easier to use. Again, I would encourage TV to modify the roundabouts that have a bypass to flow like the following video.

I'm surprised that there isn't a "Roundabout For Idiots" book yet. They have them for everything else.

I don't believe this to be true. What is the source of this "official position?"

Just throw in golf carts and that would thin down the population here.

That's a recurring comment that I don't believe either. I'm sure each accident would get it's own investigation.

Stop the video at 18 seconds. The accident occurred because the driver did not yield not because the driver entered from the inside lane. Entering from the inside lane is safe as demonstrated many times in the rest of the video.
I agree with the posters who say that labeling visitor and resident lanes can be confusing.

Someone posted on one of the many RB threads that they called the Sheriff's office, and they were told that if they are called to an accident at an RB, they ticket the vehicle in the outside lane.

Not the one I looked at. It is two lanes.

The markings confused me and the talk about not being able to continue through on the right lane
to turn left
while staying in the right lane
ending up in the right lane
on the new road.
I had thought that in a true two lane roundabout as in TV this would be possible.
The roundabouts are confusing for many people. Take a look at these Village reports that although a little dated present questions and answers from Village organizations:
and click here (http://fl-sumtercounty.civicplus.com/AgendaModule/AI9218/roundabouts%20in%20The%20Villages.pdf)
I would like to know if any other reports exist. It would be interesting to see if there are more or less accidents per 1,000 people as the population, visitors, builders, maintenance and driving experience has increased.

Hi, I am not sure whether to agree or not as I am not quite sure I understand what you mean by the bold underlined sentence?
My guess is you mean the yellow paint reducing one side to one lane? If that is it, memory says all 'three exit' round abouts have that.
I could be mistaken in what you meant...

Roundabouts are designed to save time and they definitely save gas. I wish that I had the money for gas I've burned over the years while sitting at a traffic light.
The key is waiting until both lanes are clear before entering the roundabout. Are there going to be accidents in the roundabouts? Sure, you can't fix people who are careless and in a hurry. I still prefer a roundabout to a traffic signal where people run the light and kill some innocent person moving out on a green light.

Yes, the yellow lines would restrict that section to one lane so that a turn into Hillsborough Trail traveling south on Buena Vista one could easily proceed into the right or left lane of the gate.
If not turning right at the first right/exit/90, one is always better off to be in the left lane at all TV roundabouts? Is this a good rule of thumb?
I would love to take a few videos while flying my drone of people driving the roundabouts in TV. Darn, I will have to wait until I am there!

Understood. If folks are driving correctly (IF) there should be no one in that lane (yellow painted lane), so move on over :evil6:
The only question I have not seen answered about round-abouts is which lane to use if you are trying to set a record for number of times around. I assume the left, but have never seen it in writing.

If I was in charge of everything I would declare 1 day a year drone day. The sales force would each pick a village and take videos from above.
Last week I played Cane Garden for the fist time and saw Hibiscus area, how beautiful. Imagine seeing the entire village in an Imax theatre before you shop.

It is such a delight and I feel so privileged to have witnessed the delight of kids viewing things from on high during their first ever flight in an aircraft.
