From reading posts on this site it seems to me that we pay a lot of different prices to get this done.
How much do you pay?

It seems us Villagers are a product of where we live. Because it's The Villages, prices of lots of things are much higher than average. When I first moved here, I had my hair cut and highlited in my home town....all for 60.00+tip. I am a 10% tipper when it comes to hair,(when the price is high) as I feel services are already too expensive. When I moved down here I was shocked at how much just a hair cut was. I refuse to pay 50.00 for my short hair and was paying 23.00 back home. Again, an example of services much too high in The Villages. So now, after trying place after place and stylist after stylist, I go to Rene at Cals in Brownwood. She cuts my hair for I think it's 16.00. (No wash as I go right home and shower afterwards to get the hair off me) As the cut is more than reasonable, I tip her well. She is a great stylist and listens to what you want. Prices for highlites are too high so no highlites for me until I go back home. For me, in general, as with many other things the cost is over inflated and I refuse to be taken advantage of. Each to their own but this works for me!

Full timers don't have a back home to compare everything to, and I'm glad.

You can get your cut and color done much cheaper at the Salon Academy on CR 102 off of 466. They do a pretty good job but it takes a long time because everything the student does has to be approved by an instructor. When you call for an appointment ask for a senior student.

I've learned how to color and highlight my own hair using the Loreal Color Experte-Express 2 in one system. If you follow the directions to a tee it works well. I was paying about $140 plus tip to have my hair done about every 6 weeks. I love saving the money because that is a huge chunk out of the budget. My girlfriend comes over and helps me do the roots but I do the highlights myself. It's not for everyone but if you are detail oriented and patient it works well. You also have to use a really good shampoo and conditioner every day and don't put products on your hair with alcohol, just moisturizing products like Paul Mitchell Super Skinny.
