My Mom got a call from some church friends. We know the people whose house burned down. They should have a very large network to help them out. There is an article about this on the Front Page and on page A16 of The Villages Daily Sun on 9/03/2015. If there is anything you can do, please help.

The family seems very active in St. Vincent de Paul Parish - Wildwood, FL - Home Page (http://www.sumtercatholic.org/home.html).

Someone playing pickleball at Churchill rec center saw black smoke rising and called 911. Police got their first and firetrucks later. There was lightning to the east but far away. Scary how quickly the house burned.

The woman who called my mother said something about lightning. I am hoping that the Catholic Church in Wildwood where this family is active will help them out quite a bit. Anyone who goes to the St Vincent de Paul in Wildwood probably knows this family. My mother used to be a Special Ed. teacher in Reno, Nevada and near Scottsdale, AZ., and got involved in teaching special needs adults at the St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The woman whose house burned down is the leader of that group of spiritual advisers of special needs adults. Lots of good works in other words. I hope people will pay it forward for this family. Call the Church if you have ideas about how to help or can help in some way. St. Vincent de Paul Parish - Wildwood, FL (http://www.sumtercatholic.org/)

Kinda of worried about the blown in cellulose insulation that is used in the construction, may get a company to remove & install foam instead

I read that this type of insulation has a very high rating with the added fire retardant, usually boric acid. Has a higher rating than fiberglas insulation.

Dropped by the house that burned. As an exempt NJ volunteer Firefirghter, I must commend the local FD for doing a great job of preventing damage to adjacent houses. In an area with close houses with vinyl siding, usually the involved structure is a write off.

The prevention of fire extension is paramount--Well Done !!!!

Chat - for my education please. What does it mean when you describe yourself as "exempt?"

Is the insulation the cause of the fire?

DS coverage was pretty good. Only person in house, got out ok.

Cause of fire is unknown, when article was posted. Indicated an investigation will take place.

Since there was no lightning, I for one am curious as to how this house burned down so quickly and what caused it.

So sad for this family. :(

New Jersey State Exempt Firemen's Association (http://www.njsefa.org/) explains it all.

My guess is that the 2x4's used in construction today- especially in the roof trusses- act like kindling wood and go up in flames very quickly. During Pete Wahl's tenure, he made a big deal about four minute emergency response times. Apparently, these fires spread too rapidly for even that to be fully effective. Too bad better construction materials aren't in use.:censored:

Further, we rarely get any followup to these stories or the cause of vehicle accidents within the community.

I will keep my ears open to any further news about the cause of this tragic fire. Hopefully, someone will get this information before I do.

Ask a fireman first. Our homes are all built to code and recent code at that.

Agreed. Has O & C been determined yet? Statistically speaking something like cooking, smoking, or a small household appliance (iron, toaster, etc.) is a far more likely to be the culprit.

Regardless of how it started so sad for the family. My prayers go out for them.
