Why does everyone refer to the online news site as "the other news site" or "the news site we can't mention"? Why would TOTV care if the name of the site is mentioned? Seems odd to me.

Because TOTV blocks the name/website every time it is mentioned. It is competition for TOTV because of the classifieds and if you notice, TOTV has started to imitate The News by putting out a weekly newsletter. So if you put a story link or the News link on TOTV they take it out of the posting.

Harry Potter has epithets such as "You-Know-Who", "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named" or "the Dark Lord" whenever a wizard or witch refers to Lord Voldemort. I thought posters were having fun doing the same with the "You-Know-Who-Site", "The-Site-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named." I never thought of "The Dark Daily Sun Site" until now. I think I like that one the best.

It is not the Daily Sun that we are referring to. It is the on line paper that keeps getting deleted from all posts.

Google villages news and you will find it. Most likley you are aware of it having joined TOTV a while ago, but just may not be calling it an online newpaper. Anyway - it is easy to find with google.

The online newspaper also offers coupons, and therefore is in direct competition with Talk of The Villages.
Remember, TOTV is a FREE WEBSITE for us. :clap2: They have to make money from their sponsors.

And we have used several of the sponsors. Stay-Rite, Cool Breaze, Baily Industries, 24-Hours Cart Club. Might as well give them a plug! :bowdown:

Seems like more people will talk about the site if they block it. I really don't see this as a news site.

TOTV has built a nice little community, but it desperately needs to update its message board software. TOTV is stuck, because there was such a radical change with vBulletin in their 4.0 version and 3.8x, which hasn't be updated in five years. Also the third-party plugins aren't the same. Eventually, as web standards change, this will be obsolete.

I could build a site that works better/smoother than this one for a few hundred dollars, but it would not have the established community or brand, which would take some time.

How is it stuck? I have chrome and windows and see no lag.

There are some features that I find difficult to do in a Reply. I think it's probably for the best. I post too much already.

The software that's running this site is not being updated any more. They are stuck because migrating all of this information into something that'll work for them is costly. It doesn't really affect performance.

I don't mind the ads. My ipad is the slow problem. My desktop zips right into totv. Probavly the wifi router slowing me down. Laptop the same problem. Being retired I appreciate totv and what it offers.

I've been a member of TOTV since 2007, and we do have a nice little community. :eclipsee_gold_cup:
I think we are really lucky to have this free website. I've met some of my dearest friends through TOTV.
We've had a few problems, such as interraction with iPads, however Admin works to correct issues as soon as they are made aware. :024:
The phrase "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind.

They called our advertisers and were making statements that were not true and recently have been contacting user on this site soliciting them so we made a position to simply not drive traffic to their site.
