I went to school in the Philippines with his son Howard Jr. Many of us from the high school at Clark have found each other through the internet and have a reunion about every year. The last few reunions were attended by Howard and his father. He was an amazing man. He will be missed.

"Gone West"
That is the way this sad news will be passed in the language of flying.
Thank you.

There's a movie about the Tuskegee Airmen coming out in 2009 (?) called Red Tails. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0485985/
Neat link about the Red Tails http://www.redtail.org/.

One of my father's best friends was Benjamin Davis. "Uncle Ben" was not allowed in the house until he tossed me on his shoulders and gave me a gallop around the yard. I dd not know until I was much older that (1) he was a general (probably a full bird at that time) and (2) that he commanded the Tuskegee Airmen nor the significance of that. He did, however, tell me many stories of his men. Lt. Col. Baugh was mentioned frequently and with great pride. These men should be honored and thanked time and again.
So, as Lt. Col. Baugh heads west, I will toss my salute into the air and thank him for all he has done.
