Right after Columbus weekend. Once Thanksgiving arrives, we no longer go to restaurants.

It's not the snowbirds, the issue is when do the renters arrive. You will know when the bunkers look like bigfoot was having a dance party, the greens look like the pocked marked moon. Then some are really rude. Just my opinion !!!!!!

Have to admit that I agree. Snow bird owners have the same feelings about responsibility to TV that full time owners have. The renters feel that they have paid their rent and it is then "liberty city" for everything including not raking the bunkers or taking care of ball marks on the green. At least that has been my experience when playing golf.

Most of us frogs have been birds. Just as seniors have been freshman.
I doubt there are not a LOT of snowbirds who will ALWAYS be snowbirds.
How could they just keep leaving this beautiful place????.......... and someday their grandchildren will go away to college, as ours did.

I have had rentals for several years and many different renters from all over the US, Europe and Canada. And guess what. 62% have ended up buying a home here. So if renters cause issues then I seriously doubt they have a sudden awakening once they buy. So it must be the residents that are the real problem with sand traps and greens.

A snow Bird owner often will "fly in" three or more times a year. January thru April is what I call the real Snow Bird season. Most every "bird" is in town during these months.
BTW, I don't find so called Snow Birds, on the average, to be anymore rude than any other TV resident.

And we love it when you are here. Full time, part time, by the week or month we all should have the same rights and privileges. The only thing I try to be much more aware of in season is that the rotaries get much more traffic and therefore become more dangerous IMO. Therefore I try to stay away from them as much as possible.

Us too, just bought our plane tickets. We drove down and back from Alberta the past 2 years, but the 4 day trip is a bit long, so we have decided to buy a vehicle locally and leave it when we go north.

We enjoy meeting all of our neighbours, whether Frogs or Snowbirds and the overall, welcoming atmosphere of the Villages.

The last 2 homes we sold (and they sold only after we did this), we buried a statue of St. Joseph; following is instructions -
"According to tradition if you really want to sell your home quickly you should bury a statue of St. Joseph upside down in the yard of your home. Praying to St. Joseph for a quick sale and burying a statue of him is said to always bring a fast offer on the home. Realtors and homeowners swear that this legend is true and that if you do bury a statue of St. Joseph while praying for a quick sale that your prayers will be answered.
But make sure that you bury that statue of St. Joseph in the right spot. If you don’t bury the statue in the right spot then you might end up helping the neighbors across the street sell their home before yours or you might end up helping a person on the street behind you sell a home. Where you put that statue of St. Joseph can make a big difference in how quickly the home sells.
The tradition of burying a statue of St. Joseph in the yard of a home that you’re trying to sell goes back thousands of years. It is believed that because St. Joseph is the patron saint of home and family if you pray to him for help when you’re selling your home and you bury a statue of him on the property he will help you by sending buyers to the home so that you will get a quick offer on the home. Time and time again people that are trying to sell their homes have turned to St. Joseph for help and thousands of people that have successfully sold homes are convinced that St. Joseph answered their prayers and helped sell the home.
This tradition became so popular that in the 1980’s and early 1990’s realtors bought small plastic statues of St. Joseph by the case and buried them in the yards of the properties that they represented praying for a quick sale. It must work, because many realtors continue burying statues of St. Joseph and praying for a sale when they put a new house on the market to this day.
What is the right spot to bury a St. Joseph statue in order to help your home sell faster? There are a lot of theories. One thing that all of the versions of this tradition agree on is that the statue should be buried upside down. If the statue is buried upside down then the statue will work extra hard to get out of the ground and back into a safe, comfortable home which will make the house sell more quickly. So make sure that you bury the statue of St. Joseph upside down, and once the house has been sold make sure that you dig up the statue and take it with you to your new home so that you can put it in a place of honor to thank St. Joseph for his help in selling your home.
One of the most commonly recommended places to bury a statue of St. Joseph in order to make a house sell quickly is in the backyard of the home, especially in any flower beds that are in the backyard. Another popular way to bury the statue is to bury it sideways, with the hands of the statue pointing towards the house to direct people to the house. Some people swear that burying the statue upside down three feet away from the house is the best way to get a quick offer, while others say that burying the statue facing away from the house is sure to bring a quick sale. And the most recommended spot to bury a statue of St. Joseph is 12 inches into the ground, upside down, right next to the For Sale sign on the lawn. According to tradition this is the ideal spot to bury a statue of St. Joseph if you want to sell your home quickly. You should bury the statue 12 inches down because then it won’t be easy to get to the top but it won’t be too difficult either. If your house has been on the market for awhile and you’re not having any luck selling it try burying a statue of St. Joseph face down right next to the For Sale sign and pray to St. Joseph. Chances are good that you will sell the house very quickly."

I had to go testify in traffic court one day on a citation I had written a kid on running a STOP sign; when he got in front of the Judge, the Judge asked him if he knew what STOP meant? The kid tried to be smart and responded "squeal tires on pavement" and snickered when he said it; the Judge didn't find it the least bit funny and suspended his license, fined him and made him go to traffic school. I worked too many serious injury accidents and fatalities from people running stop signs in my career.

The reason people don't like snowbirds is that things get crowded when they are here. It is nothing personal. Our snowbird neighbors just arrived last night and we are sooo happy to see them!!! They look better than they did when they left and they are in their 80's.

:) I know. And I should confess that last year, in February, I thought it was totally nuts.....
I could not get a seat at the neighborhood pool and ended up going to a family pool which was a little less crowded. -- except there were too many women there who still looked good in their swimsuits.
Trying to get into the sports pool water classes was more effort than I wanted to make.
And even the Civil Discourse meetings looked like there could be a risk of a Knock-Down-Drag-Out at the door when trying to get in.
Colony Publix. -- :loco: -- I go to Spanish Plaines Publix when I do not feel like engaging in The Hunger Games.
But the sky is usually blue and I like our house and our neighbors are great and there is always something to do. Honestly, though, I wish TV were not so big now.

Where are most folks who take issue with an increase in population and having to wait one's turn in the car or store or restaurant, from?
It seems ANYPLACES worth going to or being at or participating in have the same characterisitcs.
Granted TV is busier in the winter. It does not change the lifestyle we bought into! Or maybe it is we don't let it change the lifestyle we bought into.

I really didn't find January as busy as I expected this year. Up north we can wait up to an hour to eat on a Friday night or Saturday or Sunday unless of course you want to eat that dinner at 4 o'clock. I drive 15 minutes just to go to the grocery store up north and if I want to go to a really good restaurant it's at least 45 minutes away. So in TV I'll just wait that little extra time that actually seems less for us than being up north

Agree.
Spent time "during the season" in Naples and Bonita Beach and Fort Meyers.............the crowding is twice TV.

Renters spend half the night quietly talking on the lanai. I have new renters next door that didn't go inside until NINE PM!
Go to bed!
I have to get up early in the morning so I can turn on the coffee machine!
[i hope no one took this seriously]

Just the way I feel. I was a snowbird. I am a Frog. I like frogdom better, spots and wrinkles included. I cover the green color with a good makeup.
But I love my snowbirds. Some I don't love. Same as frogs, I guess. I hate crowded and awful drivers and critical comments about the town that is my home and the town I love.

I must be too naïve to understand this or too oblivious to have noticed. We won't move in full time until next month, but we have spent 2 weeks in our home in June 2014, Oct 2014, Feb and April 2015. I was expecting these last 2 visits to be the high season nightmare everyone is posting. I was surprised to find none of it. The roads were not backed up. I saw no golf cart jams. I drove BV from Hillsborough Trail to 466 in under 10 min. There were no more than the usual number of idiots in the RBs. We ate out or picked up take out every night. Walked right into Las Tapas at 6 PM, no wait. Evans prairie, no wait. Cody's LSL, 10 min wait at 6:30. Japanese restaurant at LSL, no wait. The longest line was for take out at McAllister's in BW, and we were 8th on line. Shopped at Winn-Dixie Pinellas, not very crowded. Shopped at the dreaded Publix in Colony, not a problem. Played golf on Evans Prairie, Havana, Hacienda and Cane Garden--no problem getting tee time. Played a couple execs with my neighbor, he got the tee time but stated he never has a problem. Traffic on 466 was moderately heavy, but I hit it as the Charter School was letting out. 466A was no problem at all. The only highway that was "big city busy" was 441 at rush hour. Our neighborhood pool had at most 2 people at any one time, I don't know about the more popular activities at the Rec centers.
We left both times confused over where the "crowds" were
Now maybe it as a matter of prospective, originally coming from a large metropolitan area, but if what I experience was "busy", don't try living on Long Island, or even Staten Island

I don't blame Frogs for complaining about increased traffic and waiting times in restaurants.
Because Frogs are in TV all summer, they tend to feel that the 50% reduction in population is "the way things should be".
However many seasonal residents pay for amenities all year long, yet use them only in the winter.
Can you imagine the consternation and negative comments if all Seasonal Residents decided to spend the summer in TV! :evil6:

Do NOT let these conversations make anyone feel that their friendship is not treasured or that we understand how this economy works. It just is more crowded and there are a lot of "guests" rather than owners.

It's true that a lot of the crowds in High Season are renters and visitors.
People from up North probably have less interest in renting or visiting during the summer months.
I do feel sympathy for Frogs. I've been in TV in December when a lot of residents leave town to visit their kids.
And I must confess, it's kinda cool.

Agree.............that is why the complainers are Glass Half Empty people. Rather than being Half Full, "Thanks for paying the amenities fee and Thanks for being gone half the year."

[QUOTE=kcrazorbackfan;1111573]The last 2 homes we sold (and they sold only after we did this), we buried a statue of St. Joseph; following is instructions -
[I]"According to tradition if you really want to sell your home quickly you should bury a statue of St.
Thank you for sharing this. I had never heard it before and really enjoyed it. I'm planning to save these instructions for future reference.
