I call our home Gate City right now as Mom and I have a Shih Tzu puppy! We have a few gates in both levels of our home. If you do a search on Amazon you can see many different types of gates.
I got two Carlson extra wide gates. I got one on Amazon and the other directly through the company. I also had to order an additional 24" extension. We have a wide foyer in our Michigan home and the gate was more stable with the larger extension. I picked this gate because it has a gate that opens and you don't have to climb over the gate. That was important to me as Mom is 91! These gates are tension so you don't have to drill anything.
I really like these gates.
I also got some of the cheap ($10) wooden gates on Amazon to lean against the stairwell. These gates are okay for what I want but are not very stable and are not very wide.
Please excuse my typing as I have a broken finger! Now, that is another story!

3 Baby Gates (http://orlando.craigslist.org/hsh/5205619759.html)
From Craig's list. I believe this is from Poinciana village in the Villages but you would have to check that out.

We also have two gates to control our two lhasa apsa pups. One will not do her business outside if it is rainy or the ground is wet from dew. I carry her out and the baby gates keep her in check. Bought them st WM.
