for Sun City, by Del Webb. I found it not only quite nostalgic. but historically interesting, not only for the early 1960's cars, but the clothing, hairstyles and so on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ki5-aDvC2kw&feature=youtu.be

I find it fascinating how Morse and Cortese built, updated and improved upon Del Webb's pioneering ideas. The video shows their "trolley" for visitors, homes built on golf courses spread throughout the community, a clubhouse, "country club", golf cart access to shopping, low taxes (no schools), 50 and over, archery, horse shoes, lawn bowling as well as golf (but no pickle ball - it had yet to be invented).

Here is part one which goes through the reasons why they wanted to move to a sunny retirement community in the first place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxZH_WTRVNU

Being from AZ we know the place well. Not as nice as the Villages however.

Glad to hear some other folks enjoyed the video(s). I ended up watching the part 2 (first link) a couple more times and noticed more details reflective of the era.

Those videos are so funny. That is what I thought The Villages was like before visiting. My parents had lived in Sun City Center, FL. It was awful. Nothing like TV.

Enjoyed watching those. Sun City West/Grand was the other place we were looking at retiring to. I'll forward these to our friends in SC Grand.

I find it hard to believe that corvar would make it from Minn. to AZ. :1rotfl::1rotfl:

In part 1 Ben gets a thirty year pension and a gold watch. Their friends in AZ live on $400 a month and in a home on the golf course that cost $12,000. Now that's nostalgia!

Between smoking and driving a Corvair (Unsafe at any Speed) I fear Ed didn't have long to enjoy his retirement.

Loved them also. Women were dressed up everyday, dresses, high heels, and were called "the girls". Thank goodness all that changed. I also had a65 Corvair. Had to get rid of it at 30,000 miles. Piece of junk.

He may have traded it in on an Edsel and switched to filtered Marlboros.

The Villages is better by far than all the AZ developments, although they are nice, and far superior to Sun City Center, FL. We made the best choice for sure!

Fantastic. I can identify in so many ways. Do you have anything similar for the very early days of The Villages? I have searched with no luck.

Wish I did, but no. If anyone has any early Villages videos they would be fun to see. In the past I have seen some early ads posted.

Add to the fact that he is a terrible driver, drives way too far to the left.
